Open Championships - Fresh Oil for singles/doubles?
« on: March 27, 2011, 11:38:59 PM »
when is it possible to have fresh oil at the championships?  If a team event runs thru lanes 56, but next shift you are on lane 60 would you not catch fresh oil that way?  What shifts have fresh oil for singles doubles?  I know team always has fresh.  Thanks in advance

the only squad that has fresh oil for doubles and singles is the 7am squad.....This has always been a big issue with the "fairness" of the open.  The issue you bring up is true, you would catch the fresh on a 9:20am (as example).....Riggs has brought this up alot and given good reasons for the fresh, basically all the pros and cons ...hopefully he will chime in.

so you can catch fresh oil if no team bowled on your pair prior to your singles doubles, this is what I am getting at.

Isn't it obvious if no team bowls on your pair in squad before that your minors will be "fresh" oil? ... although a pattern that sits for 3 hours (or whatever) will not be the same as one that say 5-10 minutes.

And I have posted many, many times on the fresh oil topic.  Hopefully, USBC will take the initiative to do so in 2013 when it comes back to Reno ...entry totals like this year make it very feasible.

yes this is true, we had fresh oil last year for singles and doubles, the team squad in front of us was small and we ended up on a pair which no one had bowled on, in fact in team last year we only had our team (5 guys) to our pair.  I did not like how they dictated our practice as it limited our ability to break a lane down faster but whatever

they made our entire team shoot one lane then move as a team to the other lane for practice, essentially limiting our practice time, their reasoning was to "be fari" to the other teams, our response was they had double the balls thrown down the lanes via two teams then one
