Back from Reno
« on: March 21, 2010, 09:06:09 AM »
Wow, what a rough time on the lanes.  My scores were pretty poor (1560 something AE) so I don't know as I'll be much help.  Had fresh oil for everything.  My first thought was "Where is the crazy backend everyone was talking about?"  The way people were talking, the lanes were playing similar to Vegas, where I had a decent reaction.  Well, on the fresh oil, they played very tight, just like always in Reno.  The high rev or low speed guys were getting a decent amount of hook, but for the medium rev high speed guys like me...not so much.  My best look was basically playing straight up 12/13.  If I missed just a bit right, sailed past the head pin, miss just a little left, through the nose (Everyone else was saying miss a little left and you go brooklyn, I really had to pull it to go Brooklyn).

The not having to check your equipment for D/S was nice.  However, despite the fact you can come and go from the squad room, we weren't allowed to enter without a collared shirt.  We always buy a new shirt for team so we all match, me and my brother just wanted to check our equipment before the line got too long and while our team mate, who is also our squad leader for 5 teams, was running around.  Nope, had to buy the shirt first.

We stayed at Silver Legacy.  Your coupon books have some good deals for Silver Legacy, El Dorado and Circus.  And they have some good drink specials, sometimes you just have to ask.  We had dinner one nite at Sterlings, the steakhouse in Silver Legacy, and everything was wonderful.  Might be a little expensive depending on what you're used to, but I felt it was worth the cost.  We ate our other meals at either the buffet or the 24-hour restaurants in Silver Legacy or El Dorado and were always happy with the quality.

I may have bowled horrible, but at least I did good at the Blackjack tables.  For the most part, the dealers were very nice, fun and helpful, and I generally was at tables where all the players were playing correctly and willing to help each other out.  The "Ace in the Hole" coupon was great.  Silver Legacy was running a Sit and GO Blackjack tournament.  $10 buy in gets your $1500 in chips for 10 hands.  Chip count wins $60.  I was a little surprised that the house didn't take a cut.  It was fun, won 1, lost 2.

Thanks for the report Dan, sorry that your scores were not higher.  Will you let us know what balls you tried using?

Yeah, I was a full 200 pins below last year, which is why when I heard they were playing similar to Vegas I had semi-high expectations.

I was using a Lanemaster Terminator (particle version).  Pin above the ring finger, cg just positive of center line, 1000 Abralon.  That drilling for me works out to like 4.5 x 4.  And a Secret Agent at 2000, pin below the ring, cg out with an X hole below the PAP on the VAL (4x3).

Oh well, I get to try again next year since it's back to Reno.
