So I got on with a couple of guys for all events.  So now I get to go to my first Nationals Tournament.  I have bowled in the Reno Stadium once last August in a Jr/Adult tournament.

Will all the ball manufactures be there in a booth of some kind?  I heard of some already.  What about Lane#1 or Legends/Lanemasters?  Where do they have the booths?

How does the ball weigh in work.  Do we go back before we check in for an event and have the balls checked?  I have had no real info from the team captains yet, so I really have no idea how it is going to work.

Since I am subbing for people, I am going to get there early anyway.

Lane #1 does not have their own booth at the Stadium!  Not sure about Legends?LaneMasters..  I do know that Banger Bowling has it's own booth!!

The weigh in is pretty simple..   The Check in room is where all bowlers will go before thier assigned squad..  Before you enter this area, all bowling balls will be weighed, and if illegal, will either be disallowed, or modified to make it legal.  Then, once you are checked in, no removing the balls from this area until you head out to the lanes to bowl.

make sure you have all coverstock adjustments and cleaning done before you get the ball checked in also, once its weighed and checked you cant do ANYTHING to the ball, no cleaning, no polishing, nothing

Plan on being a little overwhelmed.  Marching out to the lanes is a strange feeling.

haha yeah.  I bowled in a Jr/Adult contest at the stadium last Agust, and they walked us out right down the middle.  Very cool  Hopefully I won't gutter my first shot

don't expect the easy house shot that was laid out at the junior adult.  this years open pattern will be somewhat different

Mark's post is very good. I wish some of my teammates in the past would have read it and behaved accordingly.
I've had a ball fixed and had my partners get fixed also. I cashed he didn't. Blamed it on the small amount of finger weight they took out.
I thing I would suggest before going out to Reno. Make sure all your tape is out of your thumb hole. Maybe it is me but every year it seems that my thumb swells and some of the tape in my thumb always seems to be too tacky and I have a trouble getting out of my thumb.
It is a hard shot but I always have fun and look forward to going every year.

PS  It is our national tournament so dress accordingly. It doesn't hurt one bit.

Very good points.  Since I am a sub, I am not sure what the teams will be wearing.  My plan was a nice polo, then I have been debating slacks or my jeans.  My jeans are brand new, so they don't look bad or anything.

My main goal in this is to have fun.  I hope I bowl well, and I am looking forward to bowling on that tough pattern.

For the past week, I have been trying to remember all the stuff to make sure I have in my bag.

IMHO, when in  doubt go slacks, i hate the fact ABC/USBC let jeans in, just a matter of time before cut offs become the norm

If you have some jerks next to you like I had in Baton Rogue, either ignore them and let them bowl as fast as they want. They're going to whine if you're "slow" comapred to them, but screw 'em. Also, be friendly to the lane officials and utilize them if you experience those "jerks" or have other problems.

Yeah.  When I bowled in tournaments in my youth, it was polo and slacks.  no jeans allowed.  I have no problem following this still.  I actually thought about bowling in league this way.

Hopefully, I don't have to deal with guys like that.  Good call though.  I never had lane monitors to handle business

Hey Mark....what's up with rule #7?

Mark, Great post!  I am going for my 9th year (my first tourney was at the Stadium in '98) and I wish I had someone tell me even half these things my first year.  Thanks!

Tateman, my best advice is to enjoy the moment.  The memories will last and no matter how you do, you will look back on the time fondly.  Good luck to you!

This is my first time going and i wanted to go to some of the "satellite" tournaments. If we cant remove our balls form the check in area. How do I get my stuff for these.

4) Be aware that equipment rules are different at nationals. Once you weigh in your equipment you cannot do anything to it. No cleaning, no scuffing, nothing. If you have a ball that is deemed illegal by statics go out front and get it fixed. The scale guys are not perfect but they don't deserve to be hassled either. They really are not out to get you personally. And yes, I've had stuff that I know is legal come up bad at nationals.

Can you clean the balls after each event (ie. Bowl teams clean ball, bowl Singles clean ball etc..)

I''ve never heard, but I would think since it's separate events, you should be able to clean between singles and doubles. Otherwise, just make sure you wipe off with a dry microfiber towl between each shot, etc...
