Opinion on equipment for nationals
« on: June 18, 2011, 03:15:53 AM »

Heading to nationals next week and wanted to know any comments about the bowling ball i will be taking. I am a right handed, med rev player, speed about 14 to 15 and a high axis rotation.

Rogue Cell with a pin down w/ rev hole

Mutant Cell with a pin up

Mutan Cell Pearl with a pin up

Thanks

What you have should be fine, except I'd tweak the surfaces:

Mutant (solid) to about 2000

Rogue (hybrid) between 2000 and 4000

Mutant pearl can be polished, just avoid ultra shiny.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the info, I do have those surfaces on those two bowling balls. Which one do you recommend to start off with mutant solid or the rogue cell for team event.

Thanks

Team is on fresh so I'd try the Mutant solid first, with the Rogue as they start breaking down, or you lose carry. The Mutant pearl may not be needed until day 2.

just my opinion but I would consider a little more surface on the mutant solid especially if the rogue is at 2000

3 pretty strong balls. You might consider a taking a somewhat weaker ball. This year, I found that the further right I played, I needed a weaker cover. And the more I moved in, I had to ball up. Example, I started teams around 10 at the arrows with a Trauma ER. Middle of the 2nd game, I went to a Dagger and immediately jumped to about 17, and migrated left from there. Doubles, used the Dagger only, started about 17 at the arrows and ended up around 20. Singles,  went back to the ER after getting lined up. 11 at the arrows to start and no deeper than 14.

The solid reactive at 2000 idea came from Mr. Jasnau, who taked for about 30 minutes about the condition earlier in the tournament via podcast. His thinking was that since the lanes are already giving you a skid/snap look then something at 2000 reads the lane, but doesn't jump too hard on the back end.

So much depends on where you play, your ball speed, rev rate, etc., but for team I had a good look with the Alpha Max at 2000. Doubles it was a pearl Anaconda without polish, and singles was a highly polished Avalanche. I stayed around 3rd arrow the whole tournament.

I agree exactly with u about Mr. Jansur podcast. I listened to that podcast and work on my equimpment ealike he said. However i do have a cell peral with a pin up (out of box finish) and a nomad solid with a pin up surfaced at 2000 abalon but i did not want to take to many ball and start thinking of change balls every game. This is my 7th time at national and never have shot well cause of that. Hopefully this year will be different.

Thanks
