Need help deciding.
« on: May 19, 2006, 10:44:06 AM »
I am leaving for Nationals tomorrow.  I need help deciding what to bring.  I am limited to four balls, Target Zone is #1.

I have Freak-A-Zoid (pin above bridge), Black Ice (pin below ring, cg kicked, small hole), The One (pin below bridge, MB below thumb), Raw Hammer Doom (pin below ring, cg kicked, small hole), Vendetta Sniper (Rico drill), AZO Drastic Spec/R (pin right of and above ring, cg palm, small hole), X-Factor (simlar to drasic), Blade Particle Pearl 14# (high pin, cg in palm), Max Velocity (pin below bridge, MB right of thumb slightly), Cherry Bomb (pin below bridge, small hole), Rush (ping under ring, cg palm, 600 grit dull), Ravage (pin right of ring).

I have immediate access to a spinner and can change surface however I need to.

My PAP is 4(1/4)x1 and my avg RPM is 380-400, Speed off hand 16.97mph @ pins 15.6mph

Right now I am leaning towards the Target Zone, FAZ oob, Doom oob, and either the blade particle w/polish, the one, the ravage, or maybe the rush.  I don't think I need anything that flat out hooks, so I may leave the rush behind.

I had a lot of problems last year getting the ball to push right and threw a crap ton of brooklyn strikes.

Last years scores.

I live about 45 minutes from the convention center, and have seen quite a few people bowl... personally I would bring this...
#1 Target Zone
#2 The one
#3 Hammer doom
#4  Cherry bomb (im assuming this is pearl) Hit this with a good coat of polish.

I just suggest these on the fact i think too many people are bringing overly agresive equipment, and it is burning up the shot too quick... With these balls you should be able to play an area longer, and maybe evne play up the track a while.  I shot most of doubles and singles with my cherry bomb.. Played just over third arrow out to about 6 to start with... and from there just kept moving feet and mark left.  By the end of doubles i was pretty deep inside playing 4th arrow out to about 12 and was flush all day.  I scored pretty well in singles. The only time i seemed to have problems carrying was during team and most of them were 8 and 9 pins.  I went up with nothing but pearl covers, and walked away pretty happy.
Just my opinion...

Thank you!

My Cherry is kind of dead though, so I am leary of taking that.

Was in Corpus 2 weeks ago. Best look was with Big Block (low rg 2.45) pin next to ring and cg kicked right. Stood 27 and swung 18 arrows to 15 at breakpoint. Anything right of 12 was washout and any thing set short or too slow was beak or brooky. My speed is slightly higher and revs at 300. My PAP is low also at 4 3/4 to 4 7/8. Your slower ball speed and more revs should give you more wiggle room. I was convinced that I could play off the corner looking at the pattern but spent the first game fishing and snuck out a 180 game clean and quickly gave up on that idea. One ball went straight up 2 board for 45 feet and fallout gave me a 5 count. I couldn't believe it wouldn't work. Anything outside of ten was oob for me from any angle. My Scorchin at oob finish and pin under middle and cg under ring and below center was next best look with more of an arc shape but similar total boards covered. Went 617 team and then had to bowl doubles at 7 am !!!! Fun, fun....went 63? and 58? for 1839 all events with only 6 opens in 9 games. Thankfully had my plastic and made most of my spares or would have been in trouble.......Take your favorite inside ball and then I suggest a total opposite reaction ball for a third....One that would then go longer if bowling second for D&S....Hope this helps.....good luck this year.....Al

Ended up taking my Doom, One, Target, and Freak-a-Zoid.

Team event, played up 5 with the doom. Shot 215-278-163 (missed 3 single pin spares)
Doubles (Had fresh shot) - stood 30 (with 4 brd drift) played around 15 to around 10 with the one shot 166(stared with doom but kept pulling in hard right)-258-200
Singles, moved to 3-4 with a fresh outside shot, played up 5 again with the doom 232-206-180.

Had 14 opens all weekend, get rid of some of those would have been very very happy.  But I am still stoked about my 1898 this year, highest set so far in 5 years of going.

Very nice shooting... looks like you were able to open up the lane a bit... There are some great shots out there, just gotta watch the single pins.  Looks like the ball selections you ended up with worked out pretty good.

Congrats again,
Troy
