Just back from Baton Rouge
« on: June 16, 2005, 07:25:05 AM »
Well I got home a few hours ago, had an awesome time.  First trip to ABC's and i'm sure it won't be my last.  I didn't bowl nearly as well as I expected, but did have a good time with the guys I went with, a very nice vacation.  I played the lanes pretty much how I had been told they were going to play and after watching when I got there.  I do think that I got screwed because I bowled singles and doubles on fresh as well as team.  I had team at 230 on tuesday and s/d at 7 am wednesday.

I was pretty much grinding out all 9 games.  I had a good reaction but I'll admit they were tougher than I expected.  I've bowled on just about anything and everything and this was right up there.  I started team playing 21 to about 11 using my absolute.  Pretty much just moved left a board or 2 every 6-8 frames.  Just trying to be really soft with it at the bottom and keep my speed consistent, shot 556.  Guy on other team I was with had the best look in the building going 289,200,221 playing the same part of the lane but he was throwing a marble.

Doubles in the morning definetly hooked more in the back.  Heard they double strip and night and it was noticable.  I used my punisher to start and it was my best look all day.  About the same part of the lane, started around 4th arrow, keeping it soft and just trying to execute shots.  I just could not throw a bunch in a row to build a game.  Struggled with some splits and washouts and shot 528.
Singles we moved pairs and i moved about 2 boards left just because I knew the couple guys on that pair were playing a little farther in than the one's on my pair.  Kept the ball in the pocket most of the time and just couldn't get it going again, shot 589.  Bad last game cost me 600.  Missed like 4 spares for the 9 games, not including splits and washouts, so was fairly pleased with that.
I tell ya what, I learned that there are a lot of people who just love to bowl.  Some of the styles and forms out there are unheard of and it's almost entertaining to watch some of the people miss the head pin left and right 5 shots in a row but still try to play up 10.  Good luck to everyone who still will be heading out there and to my UCF teammates who will be out there next week.

Thanks for taking the time to post. I do have one question since this will be my first ABC. You say a marble? What in todays game is a marble? In my day that would be a blue dot. But in todays game who knows?
