n00dle's 2021 Nationals Reviews
« on: May 18, 2021, 11:03:27 AM »
Another Nationals has come and gone. We had our ups (3k in teams, first ever!) and downs (a stellar 488 during doubles). Overall, the bowling went well and I am very happy with my performance. Feel free to ask any and all clarifying questions, or any questions about my non-bowling experiences.

Arsenal
Reality - 2k on spinner, then light 800 saiair by hand, then 1500 by hand last; 45* x 3.5 x 75*
Aspect - 1k on spinner; 4.5 x 65*
Respect - 1500 on spinner; 4.5 x 45*
Flux - 1k, 2k on spinner; 50* x 5 x 30*
Inception DCT Pearl - 1500 polished; 55* x 5.5 x 35*

BTM
Reality @ 2k wet then 800 light, 14 - 8/9 - 6/7
Ended 17 - 10 - 6/7
Game 2, 17 - 10 - 6/7 with DCT Pearl ; lots of small moves to keep up
Game 3, Respect like 18 - 11 - 8/9, finished 20 - 12 - 8/9
Throughout the set, the lanes never created much hold. The backs always felt crisp until the end for us (3 on our pair). One player tried straighter and the ball started fishtailing around start of game 3 and it never really rolled properly the rest of the set.
False sense of security outside ten, don't fall for it!  Lanes 27-28
616

40 Framer
Literally got a refund b/c it's run about as poorly as could be. After 90 minutes after scheduled start time, we didn't even finish practicing.

Journal
Game 1, aspect at 1500, 14 - 11 - 8/9 allll game!
Game 2, aspect got weird, reality at 1500 not that good - 20 - 13 - 9/10
Game 3, Respect at 1500, 17 - 10/11 - 7/8...money. Some operator error there.
This pattern got weird. It started off nice, then as we had to move in, it got squirrely quick. I tried balling up game 2, not bad, but not good. Balled down, moved right - it sat great. 19/20

Teams
Game 1 - 14 - 11 - 8/9, looks solid. Reality at 1500.  Some operator error, then moved three and one and it looked good. Ball can read and then nicely. Approaches are tacky, center is warm and humid actually.
Game 2 - respect on fill , read well! 17 - 11 - 8/9, might be too right at laydown. Moved 1&1, and it was solid.
Game 3 - 18 - 12 - 9/10 was great. Then a simple two and one. Respect was ball of choice.
Lanes 17-18
554

Minors
Game 1 - Aspect a bit too early, using Reality. 15 - 10 - 7/8. It got weird, a bit early. Balling down to respect in 9th frame, same spot.
Game 2, respect felt early so moved in to 20 - 12 - 8/9, very squirrely. The right lane is a bit earlier than the left. Operator errors galore. I can't get it to read properly, so I'm feeling very lost. The most lost of the trip so far.
Game 3 - Aspect around the same spot, trying to get something to read properly. It looked great then 8 10 on me in fourth! Tested dct and flux fishing all game. The Flux was it, 20 - 12 - 8/9.
488

Game 4 - Flux from 20, trying to get it good. Moved2&1, bonkers reactions. Another 2&1, in pocket...carry is impossible!
Game 5 - Flux at 24 is finallllly reading well. Good game, starting to read earlier so moving 2&1. Stoned a 9 pin on first in the tenth on a triple =/
Game 6 - Flux, had to move to 26, move eyes a bit closer until the front and back blended. Then they OPENED UP! I had to move eyes past arrows a bit. On fill shot, I moved two and one, moved my eyes closer to me - an even better read than where I was, and I finished with a five timer.
643

Overall, we didn't have to move much. It's all about getting the ball to go through the heads and mids properly. I had too much ball and/or surface to start, and didn't trust the Flux to start. It took a while for the lanes to open up front to back, but when they did, it was fast. This pattern might have a 2-2 load down lane.

~~~~~
Overall, EVERY single event played strangely similar. I was in the same zones for every event, it was just a matter of which ball matched up at what time. The BTM and Journal have nice and cold centers, while Teams and Minors were a bit humid.
Bowl well out there!! And have a safe trip.
Just bowled team. Do not make the mistake of playing too far right. You can start around 12-14 depending on revrate. We shot 3259 and probably left another 80 pins out there at least.
Amazing set!! That's incredible.
Your report sounds similar. Some friends went to Nationals after me, and Teams has nothing right of 10 to start, really.
Just out of curiosity, did you guys see a breakpoint develop down lane by the end? In either Teams or minors?
There is a mirage at 8 where you will strike or ring 10. Don’t fall for that trap like I did. By the end of game 3 we were all at about 11 down lane. Most of us were standing 27-32 looking at 18-19.
What were some of styles and corresponding ball selections of your group?
Reality, RSX-1, Phase 2, Zen, UC2. One of our guys has about 600 rpm and 22 mph ball speed. We will leave him out because he’s not human. Most of us are around 400-450 rpm 17+ mph.
