Lefty's at Nationals: Where Are You Finding Success
« on: March 09, 2011, 09:06:50 PM »
Hey guys, I know the opening weekend just passed for Nationals, so this might be a little early... but it can't hurt to ask.  After posting a dismal score last year, I wanted to do a little more research this year than just showing up.  I know everyone's game can be drastically different, but I was curious... where did you find success?  What line did you use?  What ball and what surface did you use?  I'm trying to decide what to take out there that should give me a solid look.  Sadly we don't have 8 other guys burning a line in to help increase our miss room, so where did you find success?

"So there I was... BALLS DEEP!!!"

No, there were three of us. But they were not as far left as I was.

They were swinging the ball are spraying it all over the place.

For me, going strighter is better, less room for error. If I tug it, the ball would cross over. If I got it out too far, It would leave easy spare. (Hopefully)

Good luck when you go!

Respect the skill....not which hand it's thrown with.

Thanks for the responses so far!  I'm hoping there is a shot down and in, because that's definitely where I am most accurate.  Despite having a drier house shot and usually having to cover a good part of the lane in both of my leagues,  I simply am not accurate enough on sport shots when I find myself covering more than 7 to 8 boards.  Coming to Reno from the northeast, I simply don't have the ability to bring an entire collection of balls.  I was thinking about bringing 3 balls and a spare ball.

Virtual Gravity:  I've got one that's 4 x 4 @ 2000 sanded and another that's 6 1/2 x 5 1/2 @ 4000 sanded.  Not sure which one to take... kinda leaning on the one that's drilled weaker because it seems to be much more predictable for me.

Columbia Freeze Red/Blue:  Drilled RICO @ 2000 sanded.  This ball is my ultimate control ball, definitely what I would consider as my benchmark ball.

Columbia Freeze Black/Red:  Drilled 5 1/2 PIN to PAP, with the CG kicked into my palm.  This ball thrives on medium light conditions, although I'm not sure if the lanes out there are dry enough for this to actually come into play.

I've know I want to take the RICO Freeze and one of the Virtuals.  I've been juggling the idea of replacing the Black/Red Freeze with something a little stronger that gives me a different look, but these are certainly the balls I am most comfortable with... and well, I know that's key when you're going out there.

Kingpin,

Was good seeing you again.

I wish I could go that straight thru the front end like you.

The lefties seem to have the best success being very straight thru the front end out by 4-5 board.

My group had some decent success outside.

But my armswing will not let me get that straight so I ended up around 6-7.

I never moved inside of 10 for my 9 games out there.

Just kept balling down and going with weaker hand positions.
