Title: Shorts?
Post by: DukeHarding on July 14, 2009, 05:37:56 AM
Why no shorts?
It was 110 degrees.
No locker room to change in?
They allow jeans? Why not shorts?

Long pants/slacks in Vegas?
If they are required they could sell them...
I ended up going to a mall and buying a pair for $30.00.
(My mistake, I forgot to pack slacks).

How about dress shorts?

Opinions?

Have you seen most bowlers' legs?  No shorts is to keep us all from vomiting on the approach...

Funny, I thought of that, after I posted.

I had to wear 2 back braces and a knee brace in doubles and singles.
Made it doubly hot.

Duke,

You being from the old school of bowling should know the answer to your question. It was cool enough in the center when I bowled in May and it was 104 outside.

If they allow shorts, then why not tank tops and ball caps and cutoffs and no socks with the shorts and so on. Its the National tournament remember?

Also be glad you have a knee to wear that brace on, don't get a replacement and have it get infected and have to get another one.

Wearing shorts is ok if you're going out to eat at Mcd's or bowling league.
Dress pants are for classier restaurants and at Nationals.

You can find a nice lightweight pair of dress pants that you'll never know the difference.

I know it was my fault...
I left the house at 4 am, to catch a taxi.
I had some light slacks on a hanger.
When I unpacked at the Golden Nugget, I realized they were still at home.
I went to an outlet mall, that only had heavier slacks.

It's 75 degrees in Chicago today...like heaven.

I know what you mean about tank tops and ball caps and cut offs....I forgot people don't have common sense.

Ouch! 2nd knee replacement?

I worry more about my shoulder, which has a fractured clavicle and tear in the cuff, due to a fall.

since they let the women bowl in capri pants, I think we are going to bowl in some "manpri's" or a pair on knickers.

Duke,

You have to remember that wearing shorts in some eyes shows a lack of respect.  While I would go along with you on wearing a nice pair of docker dress shorts you will find others who will continue to complain that it is disrespectful.  Good luck and stay cool.

I still think a pair of khaki shorts or dress shorts would look far cleaner and more respectable that a faded out pair of jeans.

How about the fact women can where capri's as along as they are below the knee and it was still hot the end of June bowling in the convention center.

Bull!  It is a national championship.  Dress appropriately and within the rules or don't go.

P.S.  Personally I think they should ban jeans also.

Call me new school, but I think you should be able to bowl in whatever makes you feel comfortable.  Who cares if you wear shorts and a cutoff?  I sure as heck don't.  In no other sport are you FORCED to compete in clothing that can prove uncomfortable.  Even in golf you can rock a pair of shorts if you want to...but you know the difference?  They are paid to do what they do.  We are not professionals, so why try to force rules on us when we are paying not only to compete, but also to travel to the tournament.

I agree in that they should do away with blue jeans.

It is air conditioned. Not every year is a desert (although it seems to be alot recently).

If you travel to the this event paying $30 bucks for a pair of pants is a trival expense.

If you allow shorts then how short do you allow them to be?

How about a speedo?

Why do you need a shirt?

I still think this is the dumbest rule in golf, and in bowling for that matter.  I mean really, who cares whether someone has shorts, jeans, slacks...  as long as someone is wearing clean clothes and takes their weekly shower before they get there I really couldn't care less.  What ever happened to actions speak louder than, well, clothes in this case.  I RARELY wear a golf shirt unless it's required and you won't find a much better player or sportsman anywhere.  I have alot more respect for someone who is dressed down and has tons of talent and manners than those douchebag no talent hacks with their "sweet threads" that think their crap don't stink.

Unless you need to wear a knee brace. I bowled a PBA Regional on July 4th in Tucson and I wasn't very happy near the end of the 8 game qualifying round. Very uncomfortable.

It was 110 degrees outside, yes, but I do not understand how people can be complaining about wanting to wear shorts while in the Cashman Center.  I froze my azz off in there!  I spent the first game of team adding tape, tape, and more tape because my thumb was so shrunken from it being cold in there.  I ended up using more tape in my spare ball than I ever have before.  No exaggeration.  I only shot a 139 that game because I missed four makeable spares dropping my spare ball since my thumb kept shrinking the more we bowled.  (Thank God I finally got the right feel and shot a clean corner-pin-filled 668 in doubles to save me from total embarrassment!)

And this comes back to something of a societal trend.  Whatever happened to wanting to look good in public?  I personally don't mind wearing slacks and a nice polo shirt while bowling or even playing golf.  Not only do I actually think they're comfortable, but I look good wearing them.  I do not, however, look good wearing ratty jeans or shorts.  Oh well, at least that's still a step up from wearing sweatpants or pajama bottoms like I have seen entirely too often from people in league...

Okay ..my 2 cents...

Golf Shirt and Kahki Golf Shorts....Professional Looking on the golf course..

Golf Shirt and Kahki Golf Shorts....Not professional enough for Nationals?

Funny how the crowd goes...well if you allow this you allow this and this...called a slipperly slope and no if you allow nice shorts you are not going to have the wifebeater's and caps and such...

Here is the thing..I have bowled with the Air Force, on squads with Eagle Winners..and like 30 people in the crowd...so who exactly would catch us not looking PBA style??

Just wondering

Golf is an outside sport, Bowling is inside in an air conditioned enviornment.

This is a National Championship tournament, not some Friday night no tap sweeper.

I believe this is one tournament that you should look and act like a professional.

I don't agree with the jeans either, but I don't get to make that decision.

I wear shorts 99% of the time when I bowl, but PBA TQRs and the USBC Open I don't believe they should be allowed.

Bottom line is if it bothers you that much, you don't have to bowl in the tournament.

Haggar "Cool 18" dress slacks, the most comfortable and breathable slacks in my opnion.  You can't even tell that you have on slacks, they are that comfortable and cool.

Pat,

I would agree here. I have a pair, and wish I had several more. Very comfortable slacks.

The Haggar Cool 18s are the best pants out there.  You don't even have to iron them.    Everyone needs at least one pair.  I must have 10.  The only pants I will wear.
