So what happened??
« on: March 10, 2004, 06:30:55 PM »
I've been a little dismayed that only one or two people have given how they faired along with hoe things were at the tourney? Even if you just list good eateries you tried or your hotel stay that would be good. Come on I expected more from this site. (Sr. Kegler, Card, etc., etc.)

Still getting caught up at working and getting used to the time again, but I promise I will sit down and write it all up tonight.  Quick summary though.  Hotel made me mad, loved Reno, and Struggled big time bowling.

I don't really play cards and I am not 79, but it fits together somehow.

It's a 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Stayed at Harrah's.The rooms were clean and on the luxurious side.Lot of granite, marble and wood.Very nice hotel but on the quiet side about one block from center. The west wing has the larger casino, most of the resturants and the gym($5 per day). The east wing where we stayed has a smaller(dead)casino and a noodle bar.

The gym is full facility and includes ample towels, stocked showers and a steam sauna. The whirl pools are two tubs each in a private room that you fill with fresh water.Lockers with key are provided.

We had people staying in all the casinos so we ate 2 fer coupons the whole time. The food was very good to excellent everywhere we ate. Most expensive meal was Tony Roma's.Four guys steak with all the trimmings, drinks(a few each) sides and dessert $40 with tip.

The lane condition was demanding.Area bowlers struggled. If anyone else was on your line it was three shots then move.I played up the 3,4 and 5 board on the fresh team shot and did quite well.Everyone was told 1 to 6 was ob and  was so intent on their game they didn't notice my shot was carrying.I was able to burn my own track and did well in brackets.Ball was a strong pearl particle thrown up the back.

Day two was second shift doubles and singles. The outside boards were fried so had to move in with the crankers.Used an aggressive particle dulled deep inside over fourth arrow to 6 and let it swing back.Big hand this day.

Biggest money maker in my bag was my white dot.Unless you can TOTALLY flatten your ball and throw straight at ALL your spares bring a spare ball.

Twister pins. This was my biggest problem.High flush=4 9.These pins are very lively and flat bottomed.Like a new set of wooden but they don't break in.Messengers seem to fly over the corners and solid hits took them straight in the pit.I seriously thought of drilling a 14 lb. to get some deflection as the light hit was a better percentage.

Baggage. We flew Southwest out of Flint,Mi.My partner took two balls and bought two there and shipped them back.No problem.I took five balls.Had a three ball roller and a tote.As soon as they saw the three ball they flagged me over.Weight limit is fifty lbs. so I had to put one ball in my suitcase to make limit.ALL my bags were hand searched going and coming and they don't resecure the bags.I was allowed to carry the two ball on the airline but was flagged for hand search. This delay almost caused us to miss our flight out. One guy on our connecter was allowed two three ball rollers out of O'hare no charge but got hit for $50 to get them back out of Reno.

As far as ball selection strong cores seemed to fare better than the low flare stuff. The real key was find your own line and work it as accuratly as you can and make sure one of your balls can be thrown dead straight.

Good luck and have fun.

Great post Rack. Very informative, thanks.
One question I have is, how was the weather? A couple of team mates and I plan to spend the week and want to squeeze in a round of golf or two. I will be in Reno at the end of March, bowling Tuesday and Wednesday.
Does anybody know of a couple of courses in the area?
Any and all info will help. Thanks

Forgot brackets
Brackets are $5 and $10 regular and $5 senior for team + side brackets.Singles and doubles are regular $10 only plus side brackets per set and $5 senior.Senior is 50yrs and older.

Results are posted 20-40 min.after last bowler and can be collected immediatly. My bracket winnings paid for my trip and a few odds and ends so don't overlook the potential there.I'm told these winnings are taxable so join the casino's member club. They all have them for free and you get discounts and freebys for joining. They also keep track of your gambling time so you can offset any winnings that may be reported.
