Title: USBC Open Championships 2020 Reno
Post by: milorafferty on April 03, 2020, 05:33:08 PM
I just received an email from USBC:

Quote
From everyone at USBC, we hope you and your family are healthy and safe during these challenging times. As you likely know, the start of the 2020 Open and Women’s Championships has tentatively been moved back to May 23.

We will continue to follow guidance from public health officials in determining a time frame in which to hold the 2020 USBC Open Championships.

If the start date needs to move further back in the year, we want your input. We ask that you take a short one question survey and let us know your thoughts on what you expect will happen with your team’s entry if the tournament moves later in 2020. The survey should take less than 1 minute.

Survey participants will be entered for a chance to win one of several $50 gift cards.

The survey ask if the tournament was postponed to Sept 1 through Nov 1 would I;
1. Be bowling in Reno
2. See you next year

Not exactly those words, but kinda.

I've already registered for 2021, but Sept through Nov does not work for my teams. So 2 was the choice.

See you next year, we decided 3 weeks ago. Not waiting for USBC to drag their feet.

We rescheduled for late July and I'm sure if they delay to September we will go then.

Flawed poll. I put that we’d go, but honestly I have no idea. I would want to go, but I’m not sure if my whole group (which has already rescheduled for August) would feel the same.

We usually go in April, so I feel like some may balk at paying to go bowl nationals twice in 5 months. Others will balk if it doesn’t look like squads will be full for brackets.

Just received this. I still doubt Open Championships are happening this year.

Dear TNBA Member:

Unfortunately the TNBA National Championship Tournament has been cancelled for May 2020. We realize how important the National Tournament is to our Members, but more importantly we realize how important each of you is to our organization. Making a decision like this to cancel “The Grand Finale of TNBA” was not an easy one, but with so many uncertainties stemming from the Covid-19 virus that has hit the entire world we were not sure of what was ahead of us we felt it was best at this time.

We are now in the early planning phases for 2021 and with that said you and your team members will have a chance to get front row seats for our 2021 National Tournament. You can choose from the following options:

·     Request a refund for your cancelled 2020 Entry

·     Request that your 2020 entry be rolled over for the 2021 National Tournament returning to Vegas [This option will allow for you to have first choice for your times requested or to change your time slot]

Some of you have already reached out to me to rollover there entry into 2021.

The lights were dimmed on our 2020 National Tournament. We are confident that TNBA will rise up and be bigger, better and greater than ever in 2021.

Wonder how many people will bowl in the fall. Will Storm/Brunswick/Motiv still have booths with fewer bowlers and this coinciding with the beginning of league season?

And in typical USBC's half-assed fashion, the details on how to get a refund are not easily available.

Near the bottom of the article, it says April 27th you can make changes- refunds, roll into next year, reschedule.

I'm guessing when push comes to shove that less than 62% will actually go to Reno.

Our team has 5 retirees so scheduling isn't so much a problem but more the fear of traveling in a plane to Reno.

We will reschedule to the fall but I'm suspect that the tournament will even be held then without a cure/vaccine. I'm not sure winter leagues will be held as well.

We're still attempting to reschedule too.  I was thinking I might actually feel better driving (13 hours!) vs. flying, but then, my guess is if a lot of other bowlers feel that way they won't come and the whole tournament will get scratched.

They cancel junior gold but not USBC? Can someone please explain the rationale behind this? I’m actually being serious.

The rationale is Chad Murphy is an idiot. But that's just my opinion.

Chad feels he can just treat adult non professional level bowlers however he wants. His focus is Junior Gold, College, USA Gold, Pro Bowling and LPBA bowlers. He only views  league bowlers as a source of income to support his fat ass.

No doubt a large portion of the annual income for USBC is from the Open Championships, so he probably wants to string it out as long as possible. But no regard to us bowlers who have to plan out how we fit it into our schedule.

I know I'm cancelling Reno, but for some stupid-ass reason, we have to wait until April 27th before we can do so.

Our group is going minus about 35% give or take.  But we are close in California.  I got to imagine the cancellations higher back East.  We only had 10,000 teams to start.  I wonder if only 5000 teams decide to bowl, if they finally cancel cause not profitable.

I'll be surprised if they even hit 3000 teams, with the limited size of squads with one team per pair, it's going to be interesting.

I didn’t read the update.  But only 37 percent of women want to bowl and it’s still going on?  Plus prize fund and brackets way down for financial reasons, so some of the big boys probably won’t bowl too.

However, I don’t have to worry about my previous post on balance holes, since after August 1st, no holes for everyone!

The big boys will bowl and soak their tampons yet again because there will be absolutely no fish for them to beat up on.
