Title: Vise IT
Post by: bannachb on March 29, 2010, 11:49:40 PM
I just recently installed the IT system in my balls, so this will be my first trip to the open championships with this system.  I was just wondering how it works going through weigh in with an interchangeable thumb system.  Do they take your thumb and move it from ball to ball as they weigh?  I would assume this is what would happen.  I can't believe they would expect you to have a thumb slug in every ball right? Or does the ball need to be legal with both a slug or without a slug? I realize a drilled slug doesn't weight that much, but it could be enough to change the static weights.

Ball must have a slug in it before they will weigh it up.  last year i got some grief for having one slug just a tiny bit too high.

If the line is long, the guy may get a bit upset if you only have one slug and have to take it out and put it into the other balls.  I guess this will depend on how many balls you are checking in.

You should have at least two slugs normally, just in case you run into a problem.

I've had the Vise IT system the past two years in my trips to Nationals, and in both cases I just let the weigh-in staff know I had the interchangeable thumbs, so I needed to pop the thumb slug out of each ball after weighing it to put it in the next one. This worked just fine and every ball checked out OK, and I didn't hold up the line any longer than anybody else did.

I use a Thom Thum system in my balls and last year at Vegas I went through team with 4 balls, one had my regular insert and my spare ball has its own. 2 balls went through without anyone saying anything about it.

When I went through d/s weigh in, the guy asked if I had a thumb insert for the 2 ball that didn't have anything. I took the one out and he checked each ball that way.

This year, you only have to have your stuff checked once from what I read.

I had seven balls with the IT system and three inserts.  I rotated them as each was weighed in.
