« on: April 10, 2010, 04:01:56 AM »
IM flying to reno on the 23rd of this month and had a question maybe some of you guys have had this problem and might know the answer...im checking in two three ball totes and carrying my shoes with my clothes on with me...i have one of the vise tape tools that is like a small knife and a regualr size pair of scissors i have in my accesories bag and want to know if those items will cause any problems trying to get on the plane if they are with me? i could put them in the totes which are being checked in? i just dont want to get there and cause a big problem or them think im a terroist trying to carry on those items...or are they even allowed to go? thanks for any replies

My suggestion would be to put then in your totes and check them. I would bet they would frown on you having a knife and scissors where you could get to it. They dont want to take chances and neither should you.

Good luck bowling.

yes check them in....DO NOT carry them on as they will take away from you and may question you alot for having them....I work in the airport and know that you can not carry these items on..

Should have no issues with balls on the plane. Just cover them up with towels to bubble wrap just for protection.

Bought a Virtual Gravity in Phoenix about a year ago and took it back to Sweden via Chicago in it's box in a softer type of big bag which was checked in..

That's about 10-11 hours of fligh time, no problems or cracks what so ever..

Also have a friend who bowls in the Europen Senior Tour (EBPA) all over Europe and he hasn't had any problems at all either...

Hope this helps..

I don't know what airport you work in but that is not true at all. You can carry scissors as long as they are less than 4 inches long from the fulcrum (where the blades are attached together) to the tip. And you can take a tape tool but absolutely no knives. Not even a 1 inch blade is allowed. Also, in your checked baggage you can take a samurai sword if your hearts desires.

I am going to ship my balls from now on, my bags were in horrible shape when I got home. They went threw my 3 ball tote and didn't zip it all the way back up or secure the handles. My ball was very close to falling out when I got it from the baggage claim. I cost me 120 bucks to check 2 bags and I can ship them BBE for 140.

That shouldn't have happened. Fingernail clippers and scissors are ok to go. You should go talk to a supervisor then. Who do you work for in CLE? I work in DAY.

Where do you plan on putting those 4 balls once you are on the plane? They won't let you put them in the overhead I can tell you that.

Every year I check a bag that contains Bevel Knife, Rasp, Swiss Army Knife and a Multi-tool (which has all sorts of sharp points).  Never had a problem.

Rosin bags/puff balls in your carry on shouldn't be a problem.  If you're worried, just stick them in with your bowling balls.

Most airlines will only allow two balls as carry on.Better go early in case they make you check two.

I''ve never had a problem with the balls being damaged, but the bags are another story. If you have a retractable handle I HIGHLY recommend you secure it to the bag. The handlers tend to use the handle extended to move the balls from place to place. This ends in over torqued, bent and broken handles.
I now use the three ball tote with a fabric handle and keep balls protected in separate pouches. Weighs in at 49 lbs. No problems in the last six flights.

I carry on a single ball and my shoes in case the three I checked gets lost.I also carry on my accessory bag with scissors, tape, rosin, glue etc. and just put my bevel knife in the checked bag. They did take out my new skin once because it had the flammable sign on it but I replaced it with liquid band aid(no symbol)and it gets through.
Bottom line is if in doubt check it or leave it. You can buy whatever you need at the manufacture''s booths and just ship it home when you leave.
