This will be my first ABC tournament and I was wondering what to expect. I am a very high rev and high speed player on a house shot because you room to play with. I am wondering after reading the latest posts, whether to play up the lane outside or slow down and play inside.

No to the PBA pattern, and

NO, NO, NO to the house shot.

The ABC tournament condition is really, really tough. Playable, but in my opinion, the closest thing to "fair" that exists today.

It's tough for everyone. Period.

Based on my experience....Forget about outside of 10, unless you split boards and have either a ton of hand or are dead up the back of the ball. Best reaction I have had out there is around 22-25 at arrows out to 12-13 at breakpoint. Have shot a few mid sixes and a 760 in singles playing right around there. I know it depends on your game. Read my profile and see if your game matches up and adjust accordingly. Most of all....have FUN!!!!!!!

KR300 is right on the money. I love playing a fallback shot from in around 24 or 25. It is money---throw well from there and noone can touch you. If thats not your A game---make it your A game.

Question for NOTHUMB,
i'm also a med. speed high rev. power player, don't use my thumb for strike shot. i'm using an original inferno drilled for length, pin above finger, gets good skid/snap on house conditions. Wanting to add another new ball for arsenal in Baton Rouge. Thinking for Absolute Inferno or Punisher drilled for strong arc. What do you think would be better for the ABC lane conditions? Any suggestions? comments? thanks

Me personally...

I have had alot of success with very angular equipment. I use alot of roll equipment on house shots just to mat down the overwalls. However whenever I use anything that rolls at Nationals, I die.

I dont know alot about the 2 balls you mention (being honest). I looked at the specs of the absolute and the RG is awefully low on that ball. That may roll a bit too early for you. I also looked at the Punisher---appears to be a more tame and predictable weight block. For my money would have to go with the Punisher.

Considering the shot I am planning on playing (depending on how much people say they hook), I can see myself using a Flash Flood. Give me the surface to grab, but the not a real jerky grab---even out of particle. Just my 2 cents. Im sure some people will disagree. But hey, Ive enjoyed profiting the last few years.

From my experience at the last three nationals, the normal track area (around second arrow) doesn't seem to play well. People have scored well playing a variety of lines (some outside with very aggressive equipment, some deep inside with medium equipment etc. whichever they are most comfortable)...

It seems as if you have to find a consistant break point(maybe around the 10-13 board area, depending on your speed, revs, etc.) and find a way to get the ball there consistantly.

Personally, I have had the best luck playing a tight line, around 21-22 at the arrows and hitting aroudn 12-13 at my break point. But, the shot is very touchy.. miss a little inside and to goes through the nose... a little outside and it misses the head pin right... but generally you get a couple boards area and it really comes down to throwing the ball consistantly and making spares.

For equipment, I like symmetrical core particle pearls, layed out with the pins under the fingers and cg swing out w/ a weight hole... looking for a strong mid-lane and controlled backend reaction.

In looking at the graphs, the pattern this year is different from years past in that it is only 38 feet compared to the usual 40 feet. Anyone see these differences in the lines that people are playing?

We bowled team on 7 and 8, right under the vents and it was cold as a meat locker. Played off the corner and shot reasonably well. There were a lot of people struggling inside. Shooting under 500 was common. So I'm happy with the 575 on fresh oil. The next day we were on the other end and it was really tight on one pair. If you got it out a little it stayed and inside of 11 it hooked like crazy. 515 for doubles. We moved one pair left for singles and the shot was completely different. Kept moving left with the feet until I was standing 26 and throw 10. 651 for singles. Lots of oil in places and the approaches are somewhat tacky to some people. It is COLD on the low end. Humidity was high but not outrageous.

Side note: The Sheraton across the street has fantastic seafood lasagna at their Shuck restaurant.

I got cr*p time slots so I don't know what to expect: Team at 8:30 p.m. and Singles/Doubles at 11:30 p.m. (Make sure you have people that pay early because slowpokes kill you!) I shot the Masters this year and the pattern looks similar.

Any way, anyone have advice besides prayer? LOL

One of my teammates had the same squad times as you do. Since the Team is fresh oil, there shouldn't be much difference than other fresh oil squads. He did state that playing straight up worked but miss a little with line / speed and you paid the penalty. Others were in and there was a shot but a lot of skid. On the late shift he bowled on 2 pairs that were completely different. Doubles had moderate carry down that quickly turned into fairly dry heads. Singles the lanes started to open up. He's one of the most accurate bowlers I know with timing, ball speed, hand and accuracy.

In summation, make your moves quickly and don't xpect much area until late in doubles / singles

no to hijack... but ever feel as if your being taken... as you struggle (and feel pretty good) to shoot mid-500's and then a KEGEL employee comes out and shoots over 800???
