Title: Who was effected by this?
Post by: ThongPrincess on May 30, 2005, 06:01:14 PM
I just came across this on Bowl.com http://www.bowl.com/articleView.aspx?i=10524&f=1.  I can only imagine how scarey/frustrating this must have been to those bowling and scheduled to bowl.  Then there are travel plans that could really be messed up.

I know janderson was scheduled to be there this weekend, I sure hope they got their squads in before this happened.

I was there approximately the same time as axeweldr and a couple other BR members, I got out in time, hopefully everybody else did as well.

All my boys are down there when it happened. They were given the option of bowling at 2 A.M to finish teams. S&D were still up in the air as of this morning. All flight plans and travel were screwed up. Some pretty pissed fellows, especially a few who drove from NY to Baton Rouge. I guess I'm happy I didn't go this year after all.

CoachJ,

I don't think they were "pissed" at the ABC officials, but rather at the situation.  I know I would have been completely frustrated if i had put out both time and money to bowl a tournament and then end up either having to put out more money and time or not bowl due to an uncontrollable situation.

No one is questioning that the safety and health of the participants needed to be protected.  I bowled during Spring break.  I booked my flights to get to Baton Rouge the day before our scheduled bowling, March 20th, and return home the day after our scheduled bowling, March 23rd which cost me $300+.  Had our squad been cancelled/rescheduled for a later time I would have to hope American could accomodate the change.  Then you have to hope the hotel can accomodate the additional night.  And that is not taking into account those that need to get home to get back to work, vacation is over and can't bowl the rescheduled time, then the $$$ spent to not be able to bowl.

Coach,

My comments were pointed in the same context that Thong had stated. Also for them is the loss of being able to complete all events as a few had to leave the following day to be back to work. I nor anyone with a brain would question peoples safety. The "situation" pissed them off as some of them had been doing some extensive practice and drilled up some new equipment as well as tarnishing the experience of going to nationals. One of them had won 18 of 20 of their first round of brackets when they were forced to stop. I guess pissed was the wrong word as frustrated would have been more suitable. Again J what was done is standard protocol for the situation and no one questions that as personal saftey is of higher standard than any game. Sorry my wording was shoddy.
