Why doesnt someone hold thier own USBC National Tourny?
« on: November 13, 2008, 05:59:33 AM »
After reading about how the USBC, wants cities to "BID" on holding the National Tourny, why hasnt someone just gone around the USBC bidding process and held thier own national tourny?

I mean you can have the same rules and lane conditions.   I mean, there are plenty of places that have 50-90 lanes to be able to hold an event like, this.

And I'm sure most bowling alleys, would love to have the added business too, expecially during the off season.

Plus on the flip side, you could probably keep the entry fee the same, and have a bigger prize fund too, since you dont have to send money to the USBC.

Anyone else have thoughts like this?

I had a thought like this once, then the doctor told me to lie still so he could inject me with more meds.

the centers would like the generated business, but on the other hand they would have to tell all of their current customers to take a seat for 7 months.  and then welcome them back with open arms.  not an easy to do.

as far as the prize fund being higher, im not to sure that would happen, mostly because of the payroll you would incure by having the staff needed to run such a smoothly run tournament.

the problem i most major markets dont want to hold up their convention centers for that long of a period of time.  though the city makes alot of money thru hotels, food facilities, etc.

I once worked in a center that hosted the women's team event and had to cancel out their leagues for the duration of the tournament.  The center never recovered some of those leagues and it was the first step in the eventual closing of the center.  The manager told me that being the host was the worst mistake he ever made.

Yep, I miss the house on the hill. Now it's a roller skating rink.

Well, you would think, if your hosting a major tournament like this, you'd plan far ahead, to make sure your leagues are finished by the time a tournament of this size is finished....

If your leagues start around labor day, and finish say end of march, your still going to get about 28 weeks...

Not to go off course, but i'd rather do 28weeks,, than what the old bowling alley wanted to do which was put every league in contract's for 36 week bowling leagues!!!!

Because the USBC Tournament is what is established---not Joe Bob's National Tournament.

People bowl for the Eagle, or to bowl for vacation, or to bowl for whatever the heck they want. The fact is---Nationals---its all you have to say. When its something else, people dont go. Some go to the Hoinke, some go to High Rollers, but the one that includes everybody---is Nationals.
