This year avg is 190 but next season going to drop under 30 pins 160 avg so i can bowl nationals and have a better chance of cashing
-
That is, by definition sandbagging.

Yes the strategy is sandbagging. Not to mention, you pretty much have to give away 2 years to do it.
1 year to establish an average---that year at Nationals you will be using your previous years average. Then the following year, you have to mske sure you dont go 10 over....what a waste.

most people sandbag to make money year round at various tournaments, many of which do not calculate "tournament average" but use what's in the USBC book. I know some professional sandbaggers - while it's a lowly life, someone's gotta do it!

On the contrary, why does anyone have to do it?

if your drop is due to injury then no, but if you purposefully drop, then yes it is sandbagging
so you are aware the prize fund in regular is better then classified, nationals is not a handicapped tourney, it is scratch, even classified bowls scratch against like average bowlers

You would have a better chance cashing by spending money on coaching because if you average 190 on a THS you'll likely average 160 at the Nats, and you won't cash in the Nats with that even in classified!
