Finish: 600 wet sand

Hardness: 74-77

RG: Medium (2.55")

Flare: High (.056" differential)

Length (1-10): 6

Back end (1-10): 8.5

Hook (1-20): 15 (oil) -18 (dry)

Avail. Wts: 13-16# (Gryphon 2 core)

10-12# (on request - light wt. core)

Lane Conditions: Medium - Heavy Conditions

By surrounding this newly designed core with a reactive based high load particle coverstock, we have created a ball that not only reads the midlanes well, but delivers a strong backend move that bowlers desire. This ball can be left in box condition for most med-heavy oil conditions, dulled up for extremely heavy oil patterns, or polished to give it more length and stronger backends. When the oil is too long or too heavy for the Blue Sparkle Gryphon - this is the ball to go to.

I had this ball drilled 3 3/8 x 3 3/8 the pin is in the 1:30
position. The ball is 15 lbs. with 2 oz. of top weight.
I tested it on a fresh house pattern 10 to 10 35 feet.I threw the ball
out from 14 to 5 and it held until the last 12 feet where it took
a sharp angle into the pocket. That was with more speed than I normally
throw. I shot 660 with it using different lines. By the time I got to the 3rd
game I was rolling 26 out to 4 with my normal speed. This ball can be used
by all types of bowlers. It holds the inside line very well and you can
swing it  with the confidence of knowing it is pocket hunting.
This is in my opinion the most aggressive ball Visionary has on the market.
Good Job Visionary!

I received one of these balls courtesy of Jordan Nassberg and Visionary.  I was in the shop when he came by, so I was the one who drilled it up.  The pin is 4 inches from my axis, under the ring finger, and the cg is 1 1/2 inches away.  This ball hooks in my backswing.  It is very aggressive and it has a very smooth motion down the lane.  The Gryphon will definately be the ball you need when they oil the lanes to the pindeck.
Rip it and NOT grip it!!

Let me start by saying this ball out of the box is way too much.

I layed out this ball wanting something usable on heavy half synthetic and half wood lanes. the heads are synthetic so the lanes don't breakdown that fast, your backend reaction just seems to get stronger over the period of the set.

I used 5 1/2 x 4 with my pin over my bridge and cg along the midline with a weight hole 2 inches deep to bring the ball back to 3/4 oz postive.

I used the ball in the box finish on a synthetic pair of lanes oiled 40 feet top hat ( the centre i work at) and the ball played well swinging 3rd and 4th arrow out to about 3 and back.it also played well down and in over 1st and 2nd with a small adjustment of the coverstock.

this ball went back into the shop and headed for the spinner. i wetsanded to 1200 and then applyed a small amount of active attack (product from Ultimate bowling products) which is a bit less shiney than the original black magic. so it gives the ball a 1000 polised look.

I then took this ball to league (half syn, half wood) and 42ft xmas tree. Playing 4th arrow out to 5 and back all night barely adjust 2 boards.

this ball is great with a weaker or stronger pattern. i have a second one still sitting in the box that will be drilled soon for tournaments.

Comparisons: none, there is nothing close to this ball in visionary's present line up. with some polish and a weaker drilling, this will handle heavy league shots, for some and if you lack hand this is a god send.
For heavy flat oil this ball will be your money shot.

Thanks for reading and continue to have fun on the lanes this summer.

I have not found enough oil to throw this ball in San Antonio! This ball has a Rev. Leverage layout in the ball to give me roll and more roll to match up with the core and cover of this ball. Even when the lanes seem slick this ball makes the lanes open to me compared to the other equipment I have. This is by far the strongest ball in my bag and I hope I can throw this ball some more. I will post a update on this one to try it on different oil patterns.

Thank you Visionary!

Bowled a 6 gamer tonight and this ball is great. I was in 3 place for 4 games with this ball and should have changed balls but the look I had with this ball was too good to change .. I came 10 out of 40 entires but this ball rolls really good when their is oil in the mids and a big hook area right and you just keep this ball in the oil and let it ride.

Weight: 15lbs.
Drilling: 3 3/8 X 3 3/8
Surface: Box Surface

My Style: High track. Medium to medium/fast ball speed. Above average revs.

Length
The BPG gets good length.  It doesn't want to hook at your feet, even with an aggressive drilling and dull particle cover.

Ball Motion
The BPG hooks a little in oil, but when it finds dry, then it turns hard.   More of a late arcing ball.  Revs up fairly easily.  Doesn't quit on the backend.

Lane Conditions
The BPG is killer on a fresh shot, with oily heads and a fresh backend.  It doesn't quite handle carrydown that well.  Will be uncontrollable on a short oil pattern.  Works on the medium patterns well.  On longer patterns it just needs enough dry on the back.

Hand Positions
The Gryphon responds well to hand position changes.  I've had the most success coming up the back of the ball.

Overall
The BPG a solid medium to medium-heavy oil condition ball.  It reminds me of an aggressive resin ball.  Easily hooks more than my Blue Sparkle Gryphon.  It doesn't really handle the flood/carrydown that I use the Scorcher for.  The oil really "leaves" the surface of the ball quickly -- by the time it's my turn again in league play, there's no oil to wipe off.  I haven't seen any drop off or change in the reaction after half a season in three different leagues.  It picks up dirt fairly quickly and should be cleaned regularly.  The surface hasn't tracked or shown much wear.  I bowl on both wood and synthetics and it handles both equally well.  The BPG hits hard and carries well.

Drilled mine label with 3.5 oz top.  Hooks great on oil, just a little to squirrely on medium oil.  Didn't see any remarkable carry either. Otherwise another good ball from visionary.

I got my Gryphon drilled 3 1/2 x 3 1/2.  I use it on a 42 ft. oil pattern.  The ball reads the midlane great and still has enough energy in the backend.  This ball and drilling works great on this pattern.

I have been rolling this bowl for about two months. I absolutely love it. It gives me a lot of room on a regular house shoot and if the lanes or oily the ball still hooks. I rolled several 700 sets with it. Buy a visionary ball you will be happy you did.

Specs on me and this ball are in the profile together.

After my initial impressions of this ball I got some more games on it to better understand what the Burgundy is all about.

First off for me this ball reacts the same way on synthetic lanes as it does on wood.

It is also not the heavy oil ball I thought it could have been.  After bowling on longer, shorter, and lighter patterns I've realized that this ball doesn't like carrydown or longer/heavier oils.  It's almost a must to have fresher backends or dry somewhere to get this ball to turn over well.  For an aggressive cover it makes a pretty big backend movement once it reaches the dry, and gets alot of length as well.

The Burgundy can be played from many angles with many hand positions and isn't sensitive to release mistakes.  It's not speed forgiving but if you miss a few boards outside the ball will make it back up without problems.  I've missed inside only a few times with this ball and it held well but I can't truly comment about that because it only happened a few times.

On heavier head oil I can play a tight 10 to 5 belly and watch the ball easily turn to the pocket, and on medium to lighter medium head oil I can move as deep as I want and watch the ball go and come back.

The reaction shape is an aggressive hard arch, and I'd say it gets about an easy 40 feet down the lane before it even picks up a roll.  It doesn't quit when it turns over and once it hits the pocket it doesn't leave many ten pins at all.  When it does that means basically time to move and you'll be back in business once again.

This is a very good first ball out of the bag for first shift conditions because it's pretty versatile all the way around.  Just like the Blue Sparkle but can handle some more head oil early on in the set.  Once the lanes dry up some if you can't adjust well enough then switch out to the Blue and keep pounding the pocket.  It hits harder than the Blue Sparkle does and carries just as well.  Both of these ball together make a very good killer combo on any house pattern.

I have a 15lb with about a 3inch pin.  I drilled it with the pin to the right of the ring finger with the cg kicked out and left the cover in box condition.  This ball is great for heavy oil.  It gets through the heads nicely and has a great backend move for a particle ball.  It is the first ball I have been able to swing on a soaked synthetic lane.  I have been using the Purple Ice on that condition before I got the Burgundy Gryphon.  The Purple Ice is a good ball for that shot as well but its more of an arcing ball without a strong backend.  I have been having a problem with ringing tens with the Purple Ice because it tends to use a lot of energy in the middle of the lane.  The Burgundy Gryphon gets much further down the lane and has a much stronger backend.  Not as strong as a pearl reactive resin but particle balls aren't suppose to.  The only downside to this ball is it's too strong for anything but heavy oil if you have any hand.  I have to rate this ball a 10 out of 10.  Easy to control, great hit and carry.  Awesome ball for heavy oil.

Rolled my 3rd 300 with this ball so of course it is one of the best! Use this one when the lanes are medium-heavy (doesn't matter what carrydown condition). Drilled to have a strong continuous arc.

MIGHTY WINGS MIGHTY POWER

SPECS: Pin was above and between my fingers mass bias out about an inch PAP was about 5 1/2 inches away from my fingers

HOUSE 1: Synthtic lanes with Oil for 38 feet and buff to 42 feet dry outsides with a little hang if you went out to the ditch. Ball was incredibly powerful on this shot I usually played 15 at the arrows and 5 at the break point, Gryphon with this pattern had pretty good length usually revving up at about 40 feet and sweeping into the pins never stopped hooking just ripped the rack apart. Ball hit well but not great sent messengers when they were needed really kept pins low and moved them out toward the edges of the deck, Strong carry few 8 and 9 pin leaves

HOUSE 2: Heavy Juice sometimes then other times dry as a bone, very inconsistent wood house, when the oil was heavy it was about 43 feet gutter to gutter had to be accurate. When it was dry I put Gryphon away when it was heavy it was ON! Got left of everyone else and went 19 at the arrows out 10 at the break about 43-44 feet down the lane ball would just run back into the 1-3 it mutilated the pins. Ball motion was the same as HOUSE 1 just later on the lane, sweeping action into the pins and they still stayed low on the deck and moved and mixed very well. Carry was still easy as pie no real pins to watch they all went away as long as I put the ball where I needed to.

SPORT: Anything heavy this ball was a great choice created room on difficult patterns and made carry easy when others struggled to find it. Gryphons Great advantage in this setting was consistency, I could always count on it to hook and hit the same. Gryphon carried me through a few tournaments.

OVERALL: Good Consistent rolling ball I could turn to whenever I needed to even when the condition wasn't the greatest for it. Ball didn't jump on the dry and it was strong enough to turn even on the heavy juice. This is the only Visionary ball I have thrown and I am thinking about picking up another one. A friend of mine is now using this ball and he loves it and it has all the same characteristics for him as it did for me. If you are looking for a ball that will be consistent and dependable look to the Gryphon!!!

Picked this gem up from fellow BR trusted member Mrbowlingnut. Knew very little about the ball, but all reviews were positive and based upon those, guessed this one would work out well for me. An understatement to say the least! Drilled up with pin under ring, cg swung rt. with wt. hole. Left it in box finish as I planned on making it my oil ball.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b201/Spike2112/visionary/Fall%20arsenal/burgundygryphon1.jpg

The Burgundy Gryphon is by far one of the strongest Visionary balls I've ever thrown. Second only to the AMB Particle. However, I can use the Burgundy for an entire set as long as there's some head oil. Was lucky to get one full game out of the AMB. Been playing a small belly over 12 and as long as I get it out to at least the 3-5 board, this one comes back screaming into the 1-3. If I don't get it out there I'm looking at 4 pins all night. Lazy on speed an it's trouble.
Wouldn't call it speed sensitive, but don't get lazy with this beast. As the lanes dried out I found more success making speed and hand adjustments rather than trying to send it out farther. Have yet to make it roll out, but I've used it on first shift shots mainly. Hit and carry are typical Visionary- don't be shocked if you bury the pocket and see the occasional stone 8 or 9. Coverstock is as durable as any Visionary ball and ball maintenance has been easy. Rate this one a solid 9 out of 10 and highly recommend it if you have a heavy-oil shot. Another winner from Jason and company! Looking forward to trying the G-3 soon, plus a Frankie May!!!
