The Ogre Pearl was my first Visionary purchase. I wanted a pearl that would give me decent length, not too much, and good flip. I had it drilled pin under my ring finger with the cg kicked out, with a flare increasing x hole. i drilled it rather aggressive because i don't put a whole lot of hand in it. I kept the cover at box, 1500 polished. This ball delivered. It went down the lane with good length and flipped hard. I felt that this ball had good carry, pins kept flying. First game with this ball I shot 298 at my trio summer league. I am very pleased with this ball and plan to purchase more visionary. This ball is good on medium lanes, although not a dry lane ball. When it encounters oil, it does skid, but i did not intend to use this ball for oil.

Ball Specs - 15 lb, 3 oz, 2.5 tw, 3" pin.
After drilling - Pin over bridge, cg out 2" from grip center with a weight hole.
This is the perfect ball to step down to when the Ogre solid is too much. The pearl gets down the lane nicely and with this drill, has a smooth yet strong move on the backend. On a fresh, medium oil shot, I am able to play up 12 out to 8 at my breakpoint and this ball just turns over very smoothly. No over reaction for me out of this ball.
When the shot breaks down, just move inside and this ball has the recovery to hit the hole, you just won't carry as well. When I move in and play deeper, often is the case that I leave solid 9's. It's strange that I carry everything but the 9 pin.
Overall, this is a fantastic ball to go to when the Ogre is too strong or when the lanes break down. It can be a first ball out of the bag, as long as you're prepared to play straighter. Straighter seems to carry better for me with this ball, but that will not apply to everyone.
Yet again, I am very impressed with Visionary and the high quality products that they make. Nice, smooth reacting ball with some pop. Another winner from Visionary.

I chose this drilling because I wanted something that would go long and snap hard on the backends, which this ball does. I kept the coverstock out of the box 1500 polished. Out of the box this ball is hands down the best ball I have ever owned. I think Visionary made a heck of a product and I look forward to the release of the new SS Ogre.

Left handed, ball speed around 16 MPH, rev rate around 300 RPM, axis rotation of around 60 degrees, and axis tilt around 30 degrees.
Since I’ve enjoyed my other Visionary balls so much, I decided to try the Ogre Pearl. I have the solid (see review) and wanted the same kind of control and smooth “roll up†finish that it provides, but in a ball that would let me use it on the drier mediums and maybe even some dry conditions. I drilled it up similar to the solid, with the pin 4.5†from the axis and about 1.5†off the vertical axis line and the CG stacked. To make a long story short, it does just about exactly what I wanted. On the heavier medium lane conditions, it is a bit “flippier†than the solid, but that is to be expected from a polished pearl. On the drier mediums, it reacts exactly the same as the solid does on the heavier mediums and oily conditions. It’s very smooth and predictable, with no “jump†off the break point. Adjustments as the night goes on are minimal and simple, consisting mainly of “2 and 1†type moves. None of this moving an arrow at a time stuff. The Ogre line is a “down and in†player’s dream. It also works fantastic on a “dry track†or “tube†lane condition. You don’t see too many places that set out this kind of shot any more, but you get the same effect when you have a fairly solid coverage of oil to start, then play “blows a hole†through the pattern. You get oil to the inside and oil to the outside, sandwiching a drier area. This ball lets you play more down the boards, stay in the track area, and not have the “skid, hook, skid some more and try to recover†reaction you get when you cross boards on this type of shot. I don’t have enough hand to give much of the pocket away with this ball given the lower differential numbers, but this could be just what the heavy handed player needs when everything else is too uncontrollable at the break point. As I said with the solid, this ball just lets you live in the pocket shot after shot. No tricks, no eye-popping break point, no “ooohs and aaahs†from the crowd, just lots and lots of dead flush with minimal adjustments as the night goes on.

This will definatey not be my last Visionary ball as i want to try the AMB cores now. Having just switched to all Lane 1 equipment and they also carry very well, the Ogre Pearl might carry better. Once i get more games and actually use it in competition, I'll give a better review. Bowl Well Everyone.

Took this ball out on one of the tougher house shots around and couldn't miss. I have had this ball now for about 3 months and it is my benchmark ball. Just recnetly shot 300 and 805 with it. What a GREAT ball!!

Likes: Good length with a strong motion at the break point. Doesn't lose it's energy as the lanes breakdown.
Dislikes: Doesn’t work so well in oil conditions, wants to skid to far past the break point and when you apply surface it would still skid too far and be weaker at the break point.
Ogre Pearl is my favorite release by Visionary Bowling Products. The ball gets down the lane with ease and has a very strong and continuous break point. When lanes broke down the Ogre Pearl kept coming in the backend and didn’t seem to want to burn up even as the lanes dried up. I was able just to move in deeper and continue striking. Great choice for rev/speed equal players looking for a strong snap in the back end, rev dominate players may get an over reaction at the break point, hitting the surface with 4000 abralon would smooth that reaction out. Speed dominate players are going to see the ball get past the break point very easily unless they use it in extreme dry lanes, more aggressive layouts would be advised.

Ogre Pearl got into a roll maybe 1/2 foot sooner, but wasn’t as strong at the break point as the Angular One. I had to move about 5 boards to the right to get back into the pocket with the Ogre Pearl.
Gladiator Pearl - 3 1/2 X 3 3/4 – Box Finish
Gladiator Pearl gets into a roll about 2 feet sooner than my Ogre Pearl, but the Ogre Pearl is a little sharper at the break point, overall the Gladiator Pearl recovers about 5-8 boards more but does loose it’s energy a lot faster than the Ogre Pearl as the lane breaks down.

This ball is great for med to light oil and should take advantage of any THS you run across. Fantastic all around ball, easily can be a benchmark ball, is is pretty smooth and easy to read the lanes with.

Dislikes: (Not the ball's fault) By the 3rd game of the 2nd shift the lanes are pretty dry so I have to do alot of tweeking speed wise to get it to react still. Going to get the Ogre SS and see how it works!
I really like this ball. I've played with the cover on this ball a couple times. I've used this ball the most in my arsenal. Has atleast 60+ games of league and practice on it. Yesterday stuck it in the Revivor to extract oil and it hardly had any oil in it at all! But I do clean it after every set.
I really like the 1000 abralon/Powerhouse Factory finish combo on it. Ball moves well, and can play a variety of areas and its very forgiving.

I got this ball for light/med conditions. This ball has great length and awesome backend. Visonary has something special with this one. I have only bowled with twice and I have no complaints. My friends watched me throw it and just love the way the ball reacts. I am sure I will see them with one soon.
I have 3" inch and I had it drilled to go long and snap. This is the 4th ball I have purchased from visionary.

I drilled this ball up with the same pattern that I had put into a Gladiator Pearl and the Ogre Solid. I have left this ball in box condition since I got it in September.
I honestly was expecting a long and smooth reaction, based on what I had seen in videos and from my experiences with the Ogre Solid and Gladiator Pearl. Well, sometimes it is a very good thing to be incorrect (which I was). This drilling gives much more on the back than I anticipated: Super easy length up front and the look on the backend is hard arc, not flippy but covers a LOT more territory than I was expecting, which is why I said I was incorrect, but this ball lets me "belt on it" and for any pearl that lets me do that and NOT snap, that is what I call "love". This ball saves everything for the backend move and has LOTS left for the pins. In my opinion, this is the hardest hitting Visionary that I've used so far.
I will say this much: If you've read any of my other reviews, you know how much I love the pin action with Visionary products. This one is no exception. Everything stays low and pushes out, so the pin action itself almost looks "retro" instead of pins flying back and up (the curse of many a new ball out there) BUT....this ball still hits like a truck. I plan on getting another one of these with with a length drilling for lighter volumes/drier outs. Also, I am going to tweak surfaces to get different looks, but this ball is a already a big winner in box condition on the THS.
No hint of flip to me is a Visionary trademark reaction....(OK, I haven't tried the SS yet), and for THS helps me out tremendously. They can come hard off the spot depending on volume, but ALWAYS arcing...NEVER flippy. Sport/PBA type patterns get blended out and very playable usually by (of course) good ball choice but the tendency is for Visionary products to get a much smoother look/ball reaction by light sanding. Everything else I have from Visionary takes well to surface adjustments and is very durable, so I have no doubt this ball will too.

The Ogre Pearl is a very interesting ball. I did not expect as much of a reaction as I’ve seen thus far out of the ball. I really had one word to describer my initial thoughts on the ball....WOW!!
The ball is extremely strong for a reactive pearl. In the past, my favorite ‘go to’ pearl has always been a 3D Offset Pearl. My Bravo version of the ball was a very strong reactive pearl that could handle a little oil, but the Ogre Pearl makes that ball look like it’s standing still.
The best way I can describe the reaction is violent arc. The balls turns the corner with a strong midlane read, actually a lot stronger than what I would have expected.
As with my other reviews, I have 3 games that are outlined in my profile. With the Ogre Pearl I typically started with my B game and went from there depending on the lanes. The ball has enough drive to handle some oil and I can play the bellyhook (A) or down and in (B) with it. As the lanes get a little drier, I have the luxury of moving left to stay in the oil and bank it off the dry (C) as the ball has a strong recovery from what I see. I will actually push the ball out a little more as there is plenty of recovery room on the backend!! Amazing recovery actually as I love to watch this ball grab and run left. I don’t typically play this shot early on though as I don’t feel comfortable with the break point all the time. When the lanes transition, I see this shot more often as the dry allows the ball that recovery room. Comfort factor is what I would call it.
As I’ve used this more and more, I’ve grown more accustomed to throwing my A and B games with it and don’t find myself throwing the C game that often.
I really love the overall reaction of this ball. Actually shot my first sanctioned 300 game this summer in the Youth/Adult league. Strong recommendation for anyone wanting a strong reactive pearl that handles some oil and more than great for a medium to light shot.

for all ranges of conditions. I chose the 4 balls package, exchanged the
bag for an extra ball and bought a 6th ball too. Any one can join the test
staff, so I'm not partial to the company, but found them myself from others
suggestions on how durable and long lasting while high performing visionary
balls are. Also all mine are aimed at playing mostly outside straighter lines
with an arc, no angular type reactions. They can play inside quite nicely
though still, so very versitile.

The Ogre Pearl I have is my medium to light oil ball.
I used this ball on a NCAA #5 sport shot, 37 feet oil in a 1.5:1 ratio,
hardest level of NCAA sport shot. It was really useful after I had worn
a line using the Ogre solid, worked really nice. This ball is stronger
than I had thought, it is my medium to light oil ball and has a good strong
hook to it. It fits in nicely and I have had problems in the past with
polished balls, being a low rev player and speed dominant. This ball seems
to match me perfectly though, I can throw it hard with less revs and it will
still find the pocket very well. I definitely need oil for this ball, else
it will be too strong, did well on the sport shot.

Reaction: Simply put, this ball is a blast to throw. For me, it provide effortless push through the heads before revving up in the late midlane and charging hard the whole way on the backend. The ball isn't jerky or snappy. It just revs up and provides a very smooth, steady arc.
Hit: This ball reminded me why I liked Visionary stuff so much. I found that it finished through the deck very well and hit equally well on flush and light-pocket hits.
Overall: This ball is an outstanding piece for the middle of my arsenal. It is clean, smooth and plenty strong. It will be a first choice on most mediums with clean backends.

Reaction: I find the purple/black Ogre pearl to be a very versatile ball. It pushes easily through the heads and begins to pickup in the mids with a strong arcing motion on the backend. This ball is a strong pearl, but not a skid/flip. The Ogre SS fits that description. As with any pearl though, oil carrydown can cause the ball to push through the breakpoint especially if you are a speed dominant player.
This ball fits nicely in my arsenal behind my Gladiator Solid. When the Gladiator Solid begins to check up in the mids I can usually take the Ogre Pearl out of my bag and not miss a beat. I haven't had the opportunity to roll this ball on PBA patterns, but from what I have experienced so far this is a great ball for THS shots and I anticipate being able to use it on flatter patterns as well. This ball is no doubt a must have for league bowlers.
I am very impressed and couldn't be happier with the performance and durability of Visionary equipment. I will soon be adding more Visionary balls to my arsenal.
