1-2 punch arsenal
« on: February 24, 2018, 04:00:46 PM »
Hello all,
Wondering what the thoughts of you guys are regarding a 1-2 punch arsenal of the Raven Attack and Raven Invasion.  Enough separation with different layouts?  Set up with Attack for early reaction and for heavier oil, Invasion for more skid/length for lighter medium?

Longtime Visionary fan.  Just looking to refresh my current equipment, but frustrated with the lack of new stuff from Visionary.  Frankly, little worried they will no longer be a manufacturer versus just doing production for others.

Currently throw the Classic almost exclusively, just getting old and want ‘new’.  Have my honor scores with an old G3 (since has cracked).     Still have a Burgandy Gryphon for heavy and a Slate Gargole for dry (both of which have not been used in ages).  Also have a New Breed Pearl (drilled weird as an experiment and don’t care for much).

So, thoughts on:
Burgandy Gryphon — Heavy
Raven Attack — Medium Heavy, fresh house
Raven Invasion — Medium Light, broken down house
Slate Gargoyle — concrete (kidding, but get my drift)

Been using the Crow lately. Just picked up a Burgundy Gryphon, nib. I need to drill it now. I also need to figure out what I should take to New York for nationals.
If you didn't like that strike, watch this one!

I'd probably lean more towards a Raven (adjust surface if necessary) over a Raven Attack. I think the Raven is a bit more versatile than the Attack, plus being a particle pearl gives it even more distinction compared with the rest of your arsenal.

They are a good one-two punch. You can set them up to cover most House shots. Invasion takes surface well also. John (Walking E) is right you will get more versatility out of the Raven..

I changed surface on my Raven a few times before finally landing on my favorite (1000 + polish). Good luck with your surface adjustments and keep us posted.

I had the same on mine. For me the Raven was best when there was some carry down

Yep thats the light load of particle in the ball. Same as the Ogre Particle. VBP is the only manufacturer that still calls it "particle".

Tried it today at grey scotch brite final and ball was stronger for sure but was burning up some.  Haven't decided if going polish or high grit next.  Going to avoid compound as not sure what that will do to the particles.  Only other particle ball I ever owned I hated (Shift) so this probably going to end up a very situational ball for me (ie battle carry down as you say, have a feeling nearly impossible to throw this ball through the break point).  Still I like it a million times more than that old Shift.  So far though the Warlock totally owns the Raven.  I just match up so well with 2 piece balls.

Warlocks are goood for sure..

Little bit of a thread jack but my desire to start new threads is nonexistent.  Anybody have a Gryphon Special Edition?  Couldn't find a Samurai in 15 so the Gryphon was about the last Visionary pearl I could find NIB in 15 (ordered one and did pick up an Immortal pearl in 16 just for the huge diff and the middle finger to the USBC).  I am starting to like my Raven but wanted a Visionary pearl without particles as well in 15.  Wish would have picked up Samurai when I had a chance.  Oh well.  Thanks.

TappaKegga, what did you end up doing??

For me, the Raven was a no-brainer.  The place we bowl at is notorious for heavy oil as averages drop 10-15 pins there.  Plus carry is horrible.  The Raven excels there, and does so over the Raven Attack.  When I bowl at the high score alleys, the Attack eats the shot up, but so does the Raven.

It will be about your drilling and the cover you maintain on the ball in my opinion.
