Green G vs Violet G
« on: January 22, 2006, 07:11:51 AM »
Hi guys,

I drilled a GGargoyle pin over ring(4.5x4) for me. Ball reacts really well. It's a touch over/under but I like the roll it gives me on medium light conditions.

I have a chance to pick up a Violet Gargoyle drilled 5x4.5, pin over and between the fingers.

Would it be worthwhile, or is the drilling on the VG going to make it too close to the Green?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have the Violet but not the Green.  From what I do know about the two balls.  The drilling on the Violet will give good length with an even roll.  With the two drillings on the balls being similar it sounds like you would have a nice one; two punch for most medium lanes.  Me, I would probably go for it if the price is right and I had the money to spend on the ball.  Both are good balls and can easily be benchmark ball, or the work horses of any arsenal.

It might be worth it if you have noticable surface differences.  Leave the Green shiny maybe with some Magic Shine and leave the Violet dull with a gray scotchbrite or 1000 abralon.  I have both balls and have them drilled a little differently from one another but as bwlrjmp said, a great 1-2 punch for medium conditions.

Krumpy,

You should see a pretty good difference in that the Violet will read the lane quicker than the GG.  I've got a Violet drilled 4 1/2 stacked and a GG drilled 4 Stacked and my Violet is about 5 feet quicker at reading the lane.  Both have roughly 1500 polished covers.

Where is the CG in relation to the PIN (left in the palm - ARC, straight underneath - Stacked, or out to the right of the pin - Control)?  This is important because 4.5x4 doesn't tell me exactly how the ball is drilled because I don't know your AXIS.  Based on your axis will determine the description of the layout mention in ().

What is your intent on picking up the Violet??  Are you looking to play a similar line with a sooner midlane read?

A suggestion if your GG is a touch over/under, touch it lightly with a Grey or White Scotch Brite to knock the shine off the ball.  This should smooth out the breakpoint and not have such a over/under reaction at that point.

With a little more info I can give you a definitive answer.

Thank you everyone for the imput.

Stephen, the CG is kicked toward my PAP (\), (see my profile). I do like the reaction for later shifts, it is just a tad O/U for the fresh shot I start on.

If the VG is 5 feet sooner, that may work nicely. I am looking for a little quicker grab for when the shot is fresh. I could also drill another GG with a stronger drilling.

Again, thank you everyone for your suggestions.

    Krumpy,

I would touch the Green Gargoyle with a Grey Scotch Brite if you want to smooth out the o/u on that ball.  I would say you are going to be better off drilling a VG up rather than another GG.  The covers are completely different and if you need a sooner read the VG will roll much stronger and not be as snappy on the backend as the GG.

If you are looking for a VG to react sooner that your GG, I would have it drilled the same.  The cover alone will give you that quicker reaction.

    Best of Luck.
