Frankie May vs Gladiator Solid

I'm hoping to get some feedback from some people on here who have thrown both, to figure out which one is a stronger ball. I already own the Frankie May, but am unsure how I will drill it (since I'll probably be getting a Gladiator soon. Any input would be appreciated.

PS...not that it matters to this post, but I should be reviewing my PI Exec. soon, as I punched it out yesterday and loved it (and that was on the Viper).

i currently own both the gladiator and the frankie may gryphon:   In my Opinion, frankie may gryphon is much stronger than the gladiator.....  it comes oob at 400 grit  and i can tell  i cant see anyone throwing thisbal without taking it up in grit......  oob it hooked at the arrows (I am not kidding)  at 2000 abralon it (gladiator oob) it is about 3 feet longer and 6 more boards on the backend than the gladiator.......   I took the FMG up to 4000 abralon and shined it   and its 5 feet longer than the gladiator and about 8-10 boards more on the backend.....


The Gladiator is without a doubt the best benchmark ball i have ever thrown.....  very smooth transition down lane  with a nice arc to the pocket

I have both these balls drilled label leverage. The FMG is no doubt stronger for me than the GS. I agree with Green OOB surface on FMG is probably too much for most bowlers on a medium house shot. I use mine on medium-heavy oil. The Gladiator Solid at 2000 plays very nicely on medium conditions.

Had the pleasure to use both the FMG and the Gladiator solid tonight on chameleon. It was so hot the we had very bad carry down after about a game.
The Gladiator solid which had a very nice reaction to start was hanging up in the carry down for anyplace 12 and out down the lane. If I squared up more it over hooked, and no matter how much more I hit it and slowed down it was not going to turn the corner when it hit that zone around 12.
Switched to the FMG.
I had to move 5 left and still get the ball out to about 10, it just cut through the oil that carried down and rolled up flush. I had a look nobody else had. 2  people asked what I was thowing so I told them.
 
long post made short the FMG hooks quite a bit more than the Gladiator Solid especially in heaver oil.

Hey guys,

Glad to see that the response is fairly similar to the one that I would have given.  With both balls in box condition, the Frankie May is going to be a stronger ball, and handle more oil than the Gladiator.  However, when the FMay is brought up to 2000 like the Gladiator, it creates more length, and a little stronger backends.  If you bring the Gladiators surface down to 400 like the FMay, you will find that it starts up earlier and actually can handle just as much carrydown.  

By nature, at 2000 abralon, the Gladiator won't handle quite as much oil or carrydown, but it is finished that way so that most bowlers find it more playable for normal house conditions.

Thank you guys for all the input. I was tryin to figure it out, as my next purchase is more than likely a solid Gladiator. I just punched up the Purple Ice Executioner and the Immortal Pearl over the past few days. Still messing with the PIE (like different cover prep), but LOVE the Immortal.

You'll either love it or hate it.  One of the hardest to use for a lot of users.  Condition specific which is noted by Visionary.

I had heard that about the ball (as far back as when it had first come out and I wanted to get something new at the time). The main reason I got it, was because I seem to match up better with Pearl Particle covers better than anything. To give you an idea, once I have everything punched up, my whole arsenal will be Visionary...except for my Morich Onslaught and my Columbia Flipside Wired (which are both PP covers). I feel that taking it slowly up in cover prep would be better than just jumping to 4000 plus polish (it came 600 wet sand I believe).

I haven't thrown 1 Visionary ball I haven't liked yet, so I feel I won't have a problem with this one either.

The Ogre Pearl will remind you of a particle pearl, it is smoother like PP covers are.

I think this might be true if you start playing around with the cover.  With the ball in OOB finish, I find this to be much stronger than the Particle Pearls I've used in the past.

Ball is a great ball though!!
