Centaur on Walled Up Condition
« on: July 30, 2004, 07:54:46 AM »
OK guys back from summer hiatus....see the usual cast of characters.  Question is I am gonna bowl in a sr. scratch league that's gonna bowl on a older wood lanes with Guardian on heads.  Basic 9 to 9 walled up shot.  Heads burn after 1 1/2 games 3 game league with 3 man.

I shot decent scores in league last year but many no handers killed me.  Is the Centaur the ball for me if I can play the dry outside of 9 in the 7-8 board range down and in and any suggestions on drilling????  Basic info. in my profile.  There is a bit of OB outside of 4 if I flip it wide and fluff it.

Like to hear what you Visionary guys think.  Gotta figure out if I am gonna keep my test staff membership.  Used DT mostly last year with better results for the most part.  I've always liked Visionary though.

LMK,
Scott

This is a great ball for what you will be facing. the ball will slide inside and not over jump from the dry. makes shot making at the breakpoint a little less critical. just carrydown has a tendancy to kill this ball's carry potential.

Thanks Dude.  Any suggestions on laying out?  Hearing that don't weak drill it as it's weak to start.  Your thoughts?

Place your pin in the strong position (4 inches to 3 inches) and your MB marker on the right side of your thumb( if right handed) for sure, and placing a balance hole usually on your pap is not a good idea, making this ball smooth just makes it too smooth.

it does hold very well on strong over-reacting backends.

mine is drilled 4 x3 with my MB in the strong position, and it is similar to a Weak drilled V2 with a bit less mid-lane. i have noticed this ball revs up so alot but still slides.

fifteen, did you ever have a similar problem with the scorcher? i only had one of them to use and i placed a label leverage layout and it never really worked for me. flare lots but didn't move alot.

My Centaur has my MB indicator about 1 inch below and 2 inches i think to the right of my thumb, and i find this ball revs up a lot for me but does nothing. i originally thought just by looking at the numbers for this ball it would never turn over and get into a roll, because the RG being so high.

Dude--Best special condition <flooded heads> out there is the Scorcher.  This ball was never meant to move a lot cover a lot of boards.  I've used mine up and in and bowled well when no one else could play that part of the lane.  Mine ios drilled label leverage flares beaucoup and holds the line well.  On the right condition you can't stop this ball.

Drilling within the 3 1/4, the ball will be very smooth and might not hook more than five boards. This ball, if drilled incorrectly, is a great spare ball.

15lbballs--I'd never layout this way thumb way to close to pin.  I'll probably order a 3-4" pin and layout pin at 1 PM slightly above fingers with 75 deg. drilling MB right of thumb in strong position.  My PAP 5" over and 1/2" up.

Also, if you have any problems at all with tracking high, keep the pin above your fingers. This ball will thump if you don't drill it with a high pin.

No worry here I never track high.  Pin will be high anyway.

Thanks all,
Scott

Fifteen, i was actually on there proshop staff( not the test staff) and i received alot of doubles of the balls so i was able to drill first one often and test it's reaction and drill the second incomparision. The scorcher was also before my time as a staff member. Sadly so were the DC tour balls, that everyone still raves about today. I was fortunate enough to work with the company when they had the Executioners in full swing. I also was lucky enough to get only one of the Clear Gargoyles and not one of the blems. Which by the way looked good even though they were blems, most that i saw just had a green tint to the ball, and that even seemed to make the ball look more aged.

Someone replied on here that the clear will be released again in Nov. When i heard this my face just lite up.

I am no longer with the company but we still have a good relationship.

Update--Ordered the Centaur in 15 lbs. 3 oz top weight 3-4" pin.  Probably gonna layout in a 75 deg.

I'll post after I get it drilled and practice with it on a wall.  BTW almost popped for a Violet Gargoyle but I've got so many like it didn't need another.
