Immortal series question

Hi!

Just noticed the Immortal series balls have a RG diff. of 0.078, is that because the ball was designed before that USBC rule change?

I don't follow Visionary at all, so what are your thoughts on the Immortal series?

Yes, this core (as well as many others) is an old design that was grandfathered by USBC due to its early design date - even though no new ball to the market is currently allowed to use a core with a differential of more than 0.06, be it a new or old design. They are a dying species

Besides, such cores make pretty much sense for speed-challenged players with low revs - they need the core power and the killer differential to get the ball into a stable roll at all, esp. on oily shots.
You can drill such a ball weaker, sure. But if you are a more average style player, do not expect a great reaction from it if you drill it (too) strong - the ball might spend all of its energy before it enters the back end, rolling out.

Dizzy's right, the max diff is .060.  As far as the opinion of the immortals go, I have to say that I never had an issue with rollout with this ball.  I am able to play just about any line, and have decent carry with it with proper coverstock adjustments.  I will, however, make the disclaimer that I am speed dominant with average revs, and that some people could experience a rollout if they have tons of hand or slower speeds.  This is not something I've experienced, and I absolutely LOVE the versatility of the coverstock.

Additionally, according to what Jason Wonders had posted here a couple of months ago, Visionary is no allowed to produce the Immortal or the AMB series balls. However, Jason has said they have made plenty of them and there should be a ready supply of them for some time to come. It all depends on how fast and how many we buy ....

Thanks for the info dropptonhed and charlest.

Shame about the news RE: not allowed to produce anymore AMB / Immortal.

I only asked about the Immortal cos I was browsing Buddies and the Immortal Solid looks pretty (yes I'm a ball whore), and then the RG diff. caught my eyes.

Luckily I only throw 14lbs.... cos I don't have any money to get any new balls this summer anyway... there should be plently of 14lbs left.
