Title: Experience with a Warlock Hybrid XV
Post by: scotts33 on February 25, 2016, 12:17:06 PM
Here's my experience the first week I had with a Warlock Hybrid XV.   I haven't used Visionary for a few years but have wanted to try a Warlock and see how it compared the original Blue Warlock which I had great success with in the late 90's.

I use 14's and with 2 piece construction on the Warlock Hybrid XV and Pearl XV 2.64 .028 you need to adjust pin to PAP distance and drilling angle/VAL angle to get what you need for lane condition to be used on plus your stats.  My stats. are in profile.  With the help of Jason Wonders and my driller I guessed that 4.25" pin to PAP was about right for me on majority of conditions I see.  I can leave 2000 OOB for medium to medium-heavy and take to 4000 on light-medium to medium.  The ball is versatile with it's Warlock weight block and coverstock.

Shot 634 and 668 this week with it and reminded me how hard 2 piece balls hit....carry was much better than I have seen in quite awhile.  Had more messengers this week than I have seen in the last year plus not one 8 pin which I normally leave one to two a set.

I can see I will be using more Visionary in the coming year.  I will post more as I use this VBP ball and more.

Pic is below 65*(PAP-pin-PSA)x4.25"x40*  My driller spun it 3 times with various starting points and the PSA is marked in the pic.

Follow up as I have had the Warlock Hybrid XV now a month and can give qualified feedback.  I put a P3 hole in it and leave it at 500/2000.  With it's high RG that ball does need some surface and the P3 hole helps read the lane better and more continuous.  The P3 hole moved the drilling angle tighter by 10*  verified on DeTerminator.

With my medium speed medium rev game it's great on medium to light-medium for myself moving inside as the lanes transition and heads deplete.  It has great versatility and I don't find myself having to change balls as much as I used to do.  Nor even with the 500/2000 surface do I need to start deep inside....I can play the track area 11 at arrows out to 7-8 on THS.

The Warlock Hybrid XV has been a nice surprise and has a lot of the same characteristics as the old Blue Warlock.  A good house ball for myself.  ie. 670 yesterday on a house shot in the morning to 659 last night on a modified AutoBahn pattern that can turn into a tricky condition after they transition and start breaking down.  It's good on many conditions by changing hand positions and releases.

Good feedback. The Ogres always fit that bill for me very well with a similar description of your experience and so far the Warlocks do the same.

Still waiting (and hoping) there is either another Warlock XV release or 2, or the creation of a new line that fits this very same RG/Diff combo.

I think there is hopefully the replacement for the Ogre line probably hybrid and pearl covers for next bowling season maybe fall?  At least that's my hope.

Well...I want particle and urethane in addition to solid resins, pearl resins, hybrids, etc. The 5 Ogres covered almost everything other than extreme floods and bone dry.

Wish list!
