Visionary Arsenal Help
« on: October 11, 2007, 06:39:01 PM »
Before I started having issues with my thumb pitch I was pretty dead set on getting this 4 ball arsenal from Hammer

No Mercy Beatin
Black Widow
Black Widow Pearl
Blue Vibe

For some reason, all of a sudden I find myself wanting to tryout Visionary. I've read nothing but praises about their stuff. Just out of curiosity, what would a 4 ball arsenal from Visionary look like comparable to the above Hammer arsenal?

No Mercy Beatin = Immortal solid
Black Widow     = Ogre solid
Black Widow Pearl = Ogre pearl
Blue Vibe = Blue green centaur

I also love the Immortal pearl. But i am starting to fall for the blue green centaur

First off, there is no way that a SS Ogre is comparable to the Blue Vibe.  Cherry Vibe, maybe.  Blue.....not a chance.  Here is what I think would be most comparable.

No Mercy Beat'N - AMB Solid
Black Widow - Ogre Solid sanded up to 2000 abralon
Black Widow Pearl - Ogre Pearl or even maybe the AMB Pearl
Blue Vibe - B/G Centaur drilled strong

My reasons, are that the Black Widow Pearl is still not THAT angular unless on really stripped backends.  The BW Pearl is still fairly rolly for a pearl.  Both the AMB Pearl and Ogre Pearl are not "true" skid flip balls and therefore would most likely give you something more comparable to the BW Pearl.  The Beat'N is a solid reactive that has a bit of pop on the backend.  Not sure that a ball that flares that much (Immortal Solid) can be used as a length and strong backend ball especially with my own experiences throwing the Immortal Solid.  The Black Widow is a ball that has very smooth transition and yet has some angularity and continuation.  I believe that if you took the Ogre Solid and went up with the surface, you would find exactly that as 500 grit OOB is too much surface.  Last, the Blue Vibe was not designed for angularity.  It is supposed the be the earliest of the Vibes and the smoothest.  The SS Ogre is far from smooth unless you drill it pin near the axis.  The Centaur is perfect for that.  Although the very low diff, the Centaur is a solid reactive that is smooth off the dry on lighter conditions.  Hope this helps you out.

Well,
Not based off what you have from Hammer on the board, these are what I'd go with.

Immortal Solid
Frankie May Gryphon (1000 abralon)
Ogre Pearl
Blue Green Centaur

Of course you have room due to the FMG coming with a 400grit cover.  Depending on the volume you see, you could keep the FMG at 400 it'll handle a fair amount, just not floods.  That's what the AMB Particle is for.  Out of the 4, the Ogre Pearl and B/G Centaur are the must haves in your bag, atleast in my eyes.

For those that say Solid Ogre is a match to a Black Widow....maybe in ball motion but not differential and ability to come off of a blended pattern.  .029 OS vs .049 BW I think that's a lot of difference.

Whatever ya do get a Pearl Ogre for a middle of the road THS condition this ball kills!

What about the Frankie May Gryphon in place of the Black Widow?

From what I have seen, I'd rather put the FMG closer to the No Mercy. An AMB Centaur solid with a high grit finish would IMHO come closer to the BW solid.
