Oil?
« on: September 17, 2004, 06:28:01 AM »
In the current line-up. which Visionary ball is best suited for heavy oil conditions?  Would it be the granite gargoyle or is it the discontinued NPT?  Or is it another?  How do these balls compare to some of the other big hooking balls out there such as the super carbide bomb, new goliath, any track ball, etc?

We demolish buildings all the time so why not say to the terrorists look that building over there do what you want, bomb it, fly a plane into it whatever. We need to tear it down anyway. But these buildings over here leave them alone. That way you can still get your message heard and there won't be any hard feelings.

I like my Midnight Scorcher for a true flood where there is plenty of head oil.  When I am playing straight up the boards with my regular release or out on the twig with a weak release this ball shines.  After some head oil depletion then put it away.  It'll burn to early with no strength left in the pocket.  I've played the lanes totally different than anyone else could just because of this ball.  It's cover is totally different than anything you'll find.  Retro-reactive weirdest feeling cover out there.

The Granite is a step below.  Can't compare on the others you've mentioned as I haven't used them.

BTW--I always take this ball to tournaments but hardly ever use it.  When I need it though I am glad I have it.  I bet I have less than 40 games on a three year old ball.

It is the Midnight Scorcher if you are talking any ball.
Out of the line up that is on the website now, it would be the
Granite Gargoyle or the Charcoal Executioner (with so slight mods)

I have the Scorcher, and the Charcoal.  I have not found enough oil
for the Scorcher.  Depending on your style, I think the Charcoal
with a strong pattern would work.

Midnight Scorcher is a very good heavy oil ball.  I did use both the Midnight and the Super Carbide Bomb but not at the same time to get a direct comparison but it seemed like the Midnight would roll up earlier while the SCB would have more length and a bigger backend.  As to which one would be stronger, overall on heavy oil, it seemed like the Midnight got stronger the longer it was rolling in heavy oil.  Again, I did not compare them at the same time on the same lane conditions.

The Granite is a good step below the Midnight and a very good ball for heavy oil too.  Compared to the Midnight it would have more hook but not handle as much heavy oil as the Midnight.  The Midnight could be considered a ball for flood conditions, designed to get into a heavy roll rather than a big hook, not to say that it cant hook.

Both the Granite and the Midnight have a unique cover.  The more oil the cover is exposed to, the more the particles seem to pop out and the stronger the ball gets.
