Title: G 3 Drilling Ideas
Post by: pnj1967 on September 06, 2007, 09:56:33 AM
Just found out I am going to be getting  G 3 next week ( a friend ) put my name in for a drawing and I won.

I will be bowling on a THS this year (38 ft.) and most of the time clean back ends may, see some carry down once in a while.

PAP 4 1/4   1/8^
Lower rev rate
15-16 mph
Low axis rotation

Am looking for some thing with a skid/snap, and "maybe" once in a while to get through some carry down.

Message me or leave idea here.

Looking for ideas for drilling.  Thanks

Ball  specs are 15.05, TW 3.46, Pin 2-3

Skid/Snap and carrydown at the same time do not get together well...
Just like Drrev mentions: check the pin distance, and (less important) the top weight. For a snappy ball make sure to get a 3-4" pin, so you can have the pin set high, above the fingers.

The Gryphon core is IMHO pretty rolly, but has a huge potential because it is so simply. With a length layout, pin set above ring finger (say 4-4.5" from PAP) and CG stacked, you should get a good compromise between snap and carrydown capability. But for a true carrydown ball I'd rather suggest a pin-under-fingers layout with a shorter pin distance (1-2"), CG stacked or slightly swung out towards PAP.

Hope this helps a bit, too?

Ok guys I will post when I get the ball, what TW and Pin is that I get.

The only reason I posted once in a while about the carry down is, I wanted to try and get the best recommendation.

With those specs, I would do a drilling where the pin is under the middle finger (4 3/8 - 4 1/2 pin to PAP) with the CG kicked out just far enough to put a small weight hole in the thumb positive quadrant.  This should give you some earlier midlane read and yet still have some pop on the backend.  The key is to get the ball rolling before it gets to the carrydown.

I like the twohand idea without a weight hole unless needed, having two of these you will find it works best on fresher medium's. Ok carrydown ball from the strong rolly core, i rarely see skid/snap from this ball but mine are both pin under ring drillings.
