New Season Arsenal
« on: August 26, 2007, 01:46:45 PM »
Fall season starts for me this week...tomorrow.  What Visionary balls are you going to use this year?

For me:

FMG 4" pin to PAP <pin down under ring> 60 deg. layout 600 matte <--don't use this ball much only for heavier

Solid Ogre 4" pin to PAP Pin over right of ring> 60 deg. layout 1000 abralon.  Normally 1st ball out of the bag tames down fresh back ends.

Immortal Solid 5 1/2" pin to PAP <pin up over bridge> MB 45 deg. 1000 abralon w/ polish over.  Getting this ball drilled this week.  Basic same drilling a TrimMan put on his....next ball under Solid Ogre to clear heads with some polish with a bit harder finish on back end on most THS type patterns.

Pearl Ogre 4 1/2" pin to PAP <pin up over ring> 90 deg. CG in palm/mid grip OOB surface.

SS Ogre  5 1/2" pin to PAP <pin up over bridge> 75 deg. CG in palm/mid grip OOB surface.

Take the Solid, IS and Pearl normally on most THS would cover most everything.  Drier houses like older worn wood I'll take the SS.

I may try an SS with a pin up next to ring 4" pin to PAP 60 deg. stronger layout.  Badger 856 says it's a lot like an Original Inferno.  Like to see that.

BTW....use an older Blue Dot for spare ball.   Could use an older Amulet Glow but it hooks at times so I have to watch it too much.  Love to see Vis. come out with a new spare ball someday.

What else is everybody trying/using this year?

Well,
I'm giving Visionary a shot this year.  My arsenal (As advised from Jason at Visionary):

FMG
Immortal Pearl
Ogre Pearl
B/G Centaur

Doug Sterner's gonna help me with the layouts.  Can't wait to try these!!!  I'm really looking forward to throwing the Ogre Pearl.  I think it's going to be a wonderful year of bowling.

it's going to be a great year with a new arsenal:

Ogre Solid- 3.75X60* pin next to ring 600 matte med heavy/long patterns
Ogre Pearl- 4X75* Pin over ring, oob, mediums & THS
Ogre SS- 4X60* Pin over ring, oob, short mediums or when I need more angle then the O.P.
B/G Centaur- 1:30 drilling Pin up and right of ring cg in palm 1000 light polish, for wet/dry and dry

thanks has to go out to scotts33 and Badger856 for thier insights.first night shot a nice 678 with the O.S. & SS on a 40' modified house shot, with out ever throwing either ball. if the O.P. fits between these two I'm set up.

Sheesh, I have so much new stuff that I don't really have a "set" arsenal. Although, the balls I carry most and will use based on the conditions I see are:

FMG - pin under ring, cg 2" out from center w/hole
Immortal Solid - Pin under bridge, mb 2" right of thumb
Ogre Solid - Pin under and right of ring, cg in palm. 2000 abralon.
Bronze Centaur - Pin over ring, mb 2" right of thumb.
Ogre Pearl - Pin over bridge, cg 2" right of grip center with a weight hole.
Slate Blue Gargoyle - Pin over bridge, cg in palm.

The FMG and Slate will be used mostly in tournaments as I hardly ever see conditions that warrant their use. I do plan on adding an Ogre SS to use below the Ogre Pearl.

VBP Balls this year-
Year - Name

97 - Red Sorcerer
01 - Glowing Amulet
02 - Purple Executioner
03 - Clear Gargoyle
03 - Slate Blue Gargoyle
04 - Green Blue Centaur

I'll be using these balls, I throw a slower ball speed than many and with good revolutions as well as the old house I bowl in(reactives track out quick, + over/under) these type of balls not only fit my game but are the best type of option in my opinion.  Will be using them with a sort of rotation to even out and limit # of games on these gems.

I have found renewed interest with the sport all thanks to finding and supporting visionary.

Mab,

I like your setup.  Nice scores with your ogres, which ball did you use most of the time?  Mine is very similar to yours.  Solid ogre at 60 degrees about 4" pin to pap with a light polish (very much needed to get some nice skid), balance hole in the thumb quadrant.  SS ogre with about the same drill pattern and balance hole in finger quadrant.  For me these two balls cover the conditions I see on a regular basis.
