New Breed Particle Pearl vs Ogre Particle
« on: March 07, 2010, 03:59:33 AM »
Hello,

Was looking at adding one more ball to my lineup. Wanted to see if anyone has any comparisons of these 2 side by side with similar drillings. If so, what were the surfaces as well?

Not looking for what anyone thinks is the better ball, just how do these compare to each other......

Thanks!

I've had or use both.  Similar layouts but not exact.  I feel the surface relates more to ball reaction than layout well to me anyway.  Both at P2000 they have similar ball motion but I prefer the Ogre core to the Serpentine core.  Just personal preference.  Like the way the Ogre core picks up and rolls better.  I believe the surface on the NBPP probably has more longevity.  Again just my opinion from changing surface on both a number of times.

New Breed Pearl Particle.  (Note NBPP now has x hole at P3)

Thanks for the reply! So, you feel the Ogre, for you, the core picks up a roll better? I really like the way the Ogres pick up a roll for me right now as well. I currently have a Ogre particle at 4000 abralon and just absoultey love the way the ball rolls. I wanted something with more surface for the heavier stuff, and yes I understand the Ogre at factory surface woul dbe earlier than my current Ogre, but, with only one slot to fill, wanted to see if the NBPP was any earlier to grab it instead of the Ogre. However, if they are similar or are as you describe, I may go with a factory Ogre particle.

Any more suggestions or thoughts would be great as well!

Thanks!

Tough question.

To me, the Ogre strength is the cover, without a doubt.  Don't get me wrong, I love the reaction from the Ogre Particle.  The ball can't be seen as a weak ball as I've always looked at it as a strong reactive reaction.  I say that because a typical particle ball isn't really made to hook the lanes.  It's made to have a better reaction at the pins to push through rather than deflect.

In terms of reaction though....I find them very similar overall.  But, as everyone says, THS tends to do that and I probably overdo that since I try to keep everything looking and rolling the same.

Problem is....for me....not the same drilling.
