Title: Lower RG Cores????
Post by: TWOHAND834 on December 01, 2005, 02:48:26 PM
Visionary and/or staffers:

I have alot of Visionary equipment in my arsenel but seem to have only one problem.  I am bowling on a longer pattern (42 feet).  I have a Frankie May sanded to 1000 abralon as my strongest ball.  The problem, is that the FM still wants to go too far down the lane before it hits the breakpoint.  I was told by a friend of mine, who happens to be on Track staff, that I need something with a lower rg core to gain better midlane and less on the backend, which makes perfect sense.  He recommended me to get something with the rg down near 2.46-2.47.  The FM is "lowest rg" 2.50.  The question I have is that will VBP release anything in the near future with lower rg numbers or will they stay above 2.50 and just try cover adjustments?

Try the cover adjustment. The Frankie May's out of box cover was 400 grit. If the cover adjustment doesn't work then try the Centar AMB Solid, Centaur AMB Particle. Even though the rg's to both balls are higher than what you are looking for, asymmetrical balls get into a heavy roll quicker than symmetrical.

You don't necessarily need a lower RG ball; besides going from 2.5 to 2.46/7 isn't much of a jump.

What you need is the right ball; you cannot separate a ball into its component parts: coverstock and core. There's an old saying: the whole is greater than th esum of its parts. That is never more true than when it comes to bowling balls. People keep on saying I loved this ball's reaction and it has this XXX core; then in his mind he tells himself,"therefore all balls with this core will all always work great for me under all circumstances." Ain't gonna happen, dude!

You might just need to take the FM down to 600 grit or you might need to drill one up with a lower pin position Plus the MB closer to the VAL, with a weight hole in the thumb positive quadrant.

You might need any number of things, but there's no guarantee that a FM with a .003" lower RG will help you. By the way, that is 3 thousandths of an inch!
ADN you might get that change or more by just moving the pin from 4" to 2.5" from your PAP.

oh, and the AMB particle is sigificantly more aggressive in oil than the FM, no matter what the RG is.

the amb particle blue is rediculous how much traction and friction it creates. as stated previously try putting a MB on the val, it creates much more midlane. or even if you are lucky find a charcoal executioner. lowest rg they had.

Thanks guys for all the responses.  Here is my problem with the AMB Part.  I had one but with my rev rate, had a hard time getting it through the heads.  I even drilled it pin above the fingers (5 1/2 from PAP) to try and get it down the lane, but had a hard time doing so.  So, that tells me it is not a heavy condition, but just a longer one.  I will probably do some more experimenting with the FM.  Thanks again, guys!

Did you try messing around with the cover of the AMB?

I have tried to sand it up and put polish on it, but it does not like polish very well.  Plus, that ball flared unlike anything else I have ever seen.

Had a Granite and it didn't like carrydown but get for longer patterns on the fresh THS. Layout was 4 by 4 with a weight hole 1' below my PAP. Needed a little shine with the ball . Cover was at 600 grit with 3m polish. Hope this helps.
