New Toys
« on: April 10, 2007, 10:59:12 PM »
All of my new toys arrived yesterday from my test staff membership. I received the Immortal Solid, Immortal Pearl, Frankie May Gryphon and the Slate Blue. All are great specs. Gotta figure out how to drill each to fit into and complete my arsenal.

Can't wait to punch these up!!

Good luck, good bowling, and tell us how everything goes!  Just make sure not to drill the Immortals "too strong" - a lot of the people who have had problems have had them due to their really strong layouts on a really strong ball.

So, I should try to tame them down a bit?

I want them to be strong, but not too strong.

Use a further pin-pap distance -- something like 4.5-5.5

Even putting the pin this far from your PAP will allow the balls to flare a TON.  If you leverage the balls for max flare, it's possible for the ball to "over-flare."  Visionary covers are strong too -- so I don't think you will have to worry about the balls not hooking.

Where are you looking for the Solid and Pearl to fit in your arsenal?  The Frankie May is a great medium-heavy benchmark -- smooth, powerful roll and very readable.  The Pearl will most likely be a step down from the FMG, and the Solid a step up.  The ball motion shapes created by the higher differential cores should give you a different look on the lanes, too.

How do you evaluate your current arsenal?  In terms of oil handling, I see the Solid as just under the Mean Machine, the FMG as around the Machine, Inertia, Solution PP area, the Pearl as around the Freakazoid, and the Slate Blue as under the Desert Heat...
