Ogre Solid drilling ?
« on: October 02, 2007, 08:22:47 AM »
I am thinking of ordering, ON EDIT: I did order an Ogre Solid to go with my Green Gargoyle. I am probably going to add a Kinetic as well for Mediums, use the Greenie for lighter and the Ogre would cover the heavier amounts. Also I don't think that I really see what would be considered Heavy oil, so maybe I should say fresh oil. Bowl on wood lanes and things change fast. What would be a good drilling to suggest to the pro shop to start with? The Greenie is pin over ring. I am still trying to figure all this drilling stuff out. But I was thinking that pin under ring would get it into the roll sooner and allow it to handle more oil.

Let me know
Thanks!

MC what's your ball speed and rev rate?

For me my Solid Ogre is laid out pin next to ring 60 deg layout X hole on VAL 1" below midline.  Keep it at 1000 abralon.  Good ball first out of bag on medium-heavy with clean backends.  Surface keeps the ball from over reacting on clean backends.  As set goes on and heads start to get beat up or carry goes...I'll go to my Pearl Ogre, G-3, or SS depending on what I may need for trajectory, length and carry angle.

TrimMan also sggested to me to take my Immortal Solid <pin over bridge slightly towards middle 5 1/2" pin to PAP 45 deg angle> leave the box surface on it and light coat of polish over to use after Solid.  This does work well also especially on flatter patterns where I keep a tighter line into the pocket combats carry down with flare and being solid....tend to hit the ball a lil harder on release to get it to finish before pocket.

I'd say the Solid with a basic 60 deg. layout pin next to or slightly above/right of ring would be a good bench mark ball for medium-heavy especially on THS's that have a lil room to the outside.  My PAP is 4 7/8 over and 0, ball speed medium, rev rate 325.

Ball speed is 15-17mph. and I would guess that I have avg revs. By far no way am I a cranker I have been called a "classic tweener". Hope that helps.

MC,

Why don't you send Jason an e-mail now that's he's back or Jim.  Give them your stats. and what you are trying to accomplish.

FYI....if you are looking for a medium-heavy ball with 3-4" of flare then go with the Solid.  More flare than that FMG or IS.

Not sure if Kinetic's tend to over read off the spot or what.  I don't use much Track stuff....Inertia I like.  Used a The One back when they came out and was not impressed with the coverstock longevity.  Big selling point Visionary long lasting coverstocks.  Reasonable maintenance and they last forever.....keep going and going and going.  I have a Magenta DC-Tour with over 450-500 games on it.

Mine is pin under ring, its very agressive in the back part of the lane and is for heavy oil for sure.  Clean thru the heads.  I love it.  Looks cool going down the lane also.  Im getting a OGRE SS any day now!!!  Waaawhoo!~

Got it drilled today. I will throw it tomorrow night in league. Drilled it pin under ring finger and CG in palm. Wish me luck!

Incognito - The layout was my drillers idea and Jason Wonders at VBP have seen the pics too and said
quote:
I see that you have a control drill on both of those balls.  It is my favorite drilling as well.  It keeps me from experiencing too much over under, and allows me to burn up some of the balls energy in the front portion of the lane, so that it isn't too aggressive at the transition.

I also have a Centaur Solid with a similar layout but with pin over the ringfinger..
