Here we go the new Raven! Also Visionary new Logo!
Awesome job Jason and Visionary, looks great!
-
I like it! 8)
-
Not gonna lie... I really like the looks of the new logo and I want the ball. Where do I sign on the dotted line?
-
Best looking ball they've had in a while.
-
Best looking ball they've had in a while.
Really the only ball they have had in a while.
-
…… ..true. Almost forget they still exist.
-
Is it just me or the logo has something Motiv-esque? I really like it! Loved my Gryphon G-3!

It has a harder image or edge to it, I don't see Motiv when I look at it. More modern and less cartoony (is that a word). Metalic and smooth..

I haven't thrown their stuff since the old Gargoyle and Griffin line. The Blue Sparkle Griffin was my favorite ball.
Glad to see them reinventing their image.
-
Oooh, that looks nice. Let us know how it rolls, JamminJD!!
-
Why are these companies always thinking of new ways to convince me to give them my money!!!

So True!

Mine should be here today or tomorrow. If it continues to rain, there is a possibility the video could get done this weekend.
-
Very sharp looking ball. and like that stupid dress. the raven logo is yellow not white

Looks good, can't wait for the video!
-
That looks really good. I got my order in and can't wait to get it
-
Is it me or does the Raven Logo look like the old Track Phoenix Logo? Not hating, and I am still debating on getting this. I know a bunch of new releases from everyone is around the corner so I am trying to be patient.

Does have a little Phoenix look to it, I think he went for that look to make it look meaner looking.
Go ahead and get you a Raven, I should have my drilled by Tuesday and hopefully throw it some then or no later than Wed.
-
First Impressions.
Drilled 40 * 4 * 30 Small weight hole 1" below pap OOB cover (2000 sanded)
Same house shot I normally bowl on in the videos. Very heavy in mids with some free hook outside 8.
For me this is not a ball I would use at the start of the night. To play in the Middle where I like to play (playing straighter is NOT my A game) requires a little stronger cover. Currently I use a IQ Nano tour or a Mastermind Scholar which ever I am getting the better look with.
I threw the Raven in the 3rd game, moved a little right and It rolled very well. good length with a stronger arc to the pocket. Not a skid flippy reaction. Just a well defined ball motion that read the mids very well. For me it seemed to be a little earlier than the Warlock Pearl and a touch stronger off the spot.
My buddy threw the raven all 3 games.
he is even matched with speed and revs ( less revs than i have and a slower speed)
He plays in the track area more but can swing it a bit.
shot 727 with the Raven, and it put his reax2 and pivot to shame.
-
I think I'm gonna go 50 x 4 x 60 with mine when it gets here which also gives me the option for a p3 hole. I throw it similar to you comparing tilt and rotation but maybe slightly less in the rev department

Night 2 was a little better. Little bit drier than last night
-
Nice shooting, how was the reaction tonight?
-
It was a good bit drier tonight so I started the night with the Raven.
Got kinda lost 2nd game had to go real deep. Usually if I get too deep I start hanging 10 pins. Not tonight. This ball carries really well

Nice sounds good!

Nothing against the logo I like it. It has an aggressive vibe to it. I'm looking to maybe getting 2 new balls this summer and this one is on the radar!
-
ok.
I have to say, that after 3 sets this might be my new favorite ball from Visionary to date.
shot 753 today bowling with my son on a Jr/Adult league. The carry I am getting is amazing. I hit the cover with 1000 by hand and it starts up a little earlier and it is now very strong on the back end. Working on the time to get over to shoot the video.

Nice can't wait, mine will be here Tuesday! Just have to figure out how to drill it!

Drilled mine 30 * 4 * 30
Switched to a modified Sarge Easter grip. It has erased all my wrist pain. The stress on my ring finger is gone and for the first time in 13 years I can bowl with no wrist brace to help support the ball weight. not sure I am ready to test on a 15lb ball yet tho.

I was wondering if they changed the look of the CG. I'm hoping mine gets here today before I leave to sub or it at least gets here tomorrow morning sometime so I can get it drilled up before our men's league wednesday

Nice!

When and where is it available to the public?
-
When and where is it available to the public?
Ball is available today 3-30-15.
Have your pro shop call Visionary direct at 314-388-3446.
Or you could call Carrie at VBP and mention my name Johnny Dickerson when you ask about the Raven. Let me know if you have any problems and I will help all I can.
-
;D JUST ORDERED MINE TODAY! THE LAST VISIONARY BALL I DRILLED WAS THE CLASSIC, HOW WILL THIS COMPARE?
-
;D JUST ORDERED MINE TODAY! THE LAST VISIONARY BALL I DRILLED WAS THE CLASSIC, HOW WILL THIS COMPARE?
Sweet! I don't know exactly how close they will be, numbers are close 2.51")
- .052" in the Classic and 2.53 -.049 for the Raven.
Raven is Pearl and Classic was a Hybrid. I think the Raven will be a all around ball being it has some surface for a pearl and some light load particle, but the Classic I had was very versatile as well. So, I guess we will have to drill and throw.
Hopefully I can get mine drilled today and find out for sure!
-
Thanks, my Classic is pin up so I will most likely drill it pin down. The only other brand I've been throwing besides Radical.
-
Got the Raven! Man this ball is sharp, one of the coolest balls I have seen!
New box as well, also very nice! Great Job Jason and VBP!
On my way to drill and hopefully bowl! Pics in link.

Really sharp looking ball.
-
Ok got the Raven drilled, I drilled it with a 4.5" pin up didn't check the dual angles.
There was a left over 44' THS that had about 4 games of open bowl, so it was not the best judge of the reaction. I only threw 5 balls but I liked what I seen, ball was smooth and strong enough on the screwed up pattern to look the part. Really excited about this ball.
-
not to far off mine, but hard to say on the DA as I dont know your pap.
That looks like it will need a hole to be legal or pretty close to it. Usually at this time of year I cant wait for the season to end. Not now, cant wait for Thurs to get here to throw it

Yeah it has a hole just cant see it in the pic. I know what you mean, I cant wait for summer PBA league!
-
Just got the ball for my son for summer leagues and then High School bowling next season. Looking forward to seeing how it'll roll for him.
Matt, in regards to 1st ball of the night, I would think that with the drilling you've given it, yes, you might not. But had you drilled this ball similar to other balls you've had, it would have been a better comparison to make that statement, no??
Only saying that because it gives the impression that the ball isn't a 1st out of the bag ball and I have a feeling that it will be for many.

This ball looks awesome. I think I changed my mind and I'm gonna have it drilled 50/60 x 5 x 30. I'm gonna sub in the league tomorrow night so I'll have to report back with what I see from it

This place, Bowlers Cellar, is the only internet cellar that I know which sells Visionary balls online. It's been a while since I ordered from them; they seemed fine back then.

I used this specific drilling on the previous advise from Mo Pinel. Low totals and a 3 1/2 - 4" pin to pap. This lets me take full advantage of a lower weight hole to increase flare. Remember this ball is a sym and after drilling the MB will be in or near the thumbhole.
Only saying that because it gives the impression that the ball isn't a 1st out of the bag ball and I have a feeling that it will be for many.
I tried my best to state that for ME it might not be a first ball out of the bag. For most others this will be the first ball out as they do not see the volume I do on a day to day basis.
I did a follow up post the next night saying the shot was a bit drier for some reason and I used it for 4 games including the 300. The temp and the humidity this time of year plays hell on the shot. One night its really heavy then next it plays more like a med/heavy.
I have used it 3 times now, and all three I have had someone or multiples ask what ball it is because they like what they saw.
-
Took mine to league last night could only use it the first game shot 246, ball is nice, smooth and very continuous. Got a bunch of people asking about it and really liking the looks of the ball. Jason did a good job with this one. Lot of questions as well.
Can't wait to throw it again!
-
There is something special with this ball. The carry so far is incredible. Cant wait to see what I can do tonight.

I'd have to agree. Hot off the press I threw the first 8 until I rang back-to-back 10s for 268.
Went 268-209-246 for 723. Should have been higher too, rang 3 more 10s in game 3 and had bad luck on 1 lane in game 2

Nice Bowling Ryan, ball is going to be a good one! Keep us informed!
-
One thing I can say after throwing the ball is that it doesn't stop when it gets going.
I ended up going 50 x 5 x 30 and the ball is strong. I felt like I was trying to control a monster on our shot as it just wanted to take off. I added a coat of polish after the league to the ball to see if it might help at all. The coat of polish didn't change much except maybe a foot or 2 of length.
As my comparison so far, it made my Virtual Energy look tame.
-
Matt C= I have watched your videos on previous Visionary balls, both Warlocks and the Samurai. Generally speaking, how does the Raven stack up against those balls?
Thanks,
Gill Man

Stronger and longer than the Warlock solid
A little earlier than the Warlock pearl but stronger off the spot
A lot stronger than the samurai and a good bit earlier.
What I SEE at my house with the below balls. Your reactions may vary depending on your house conditions.
Raven - reads mids very well and a Strong arc off the dry. so far Excellent carry. as the pattern breaks down I can get deep with the Raven and not lose hitting power.
Warlock Pearl - longer with a solid arc off the dry. I do get some over/under if I try to get too deep with the pearl.
Warlock solid - reads mids well for ME not as strong off the dry as the pearl, but mine is drilled pin down for a longer hook zone. Did not handle heavy oil well.
Samurai - I redrilled mine with a pin down layout. the first layout I was seeing more of a hook set reaction. Now I use the Samurai when the patter really breaks down.
MB Crossover - Ball is still my bag. I like the hybrid react a tac cover and if the lanes get weird this ball seems to shine.
-
Thank you for the response Matt and congrats on that 300 with the Raven!
-
Got mine sitting at the house. Need to punch a few holes. And let it roll. Thinking pin above ring finger, 4 to 5 inches from pap. Put the cg to the right a little and add a wt hole if needed. Should be stronger than the Samurai with a similar layout. My go to ball right now is a pin down Gryphon SE. Friggin love Visionary.
-
722 tonight with it. 269-245-208. The first 2 games go great and then it becomes too strong for me in the 3rd game. I'm having too much fun throwing it that I haven't put it down when I should have. Wednesday night was a good example for it as I went 227-242-189 trying to make it work in the 3rd game
-
Gonna drill mine tonight. Gonna try and lay it out with the thumbhole 6-3/4 from the pin and 3-3/4 pin to pap.
-
Been gone for a while, but that looks sweet.
-
I punched mine up last week very similar to JD's. Got two nights of league play in- 686 first night and 699 the 2nd. First night the oil was heavier and I played straight up 8-9 board and walked in. Was able to use Raven all night with minor adjustments. 2nd night was drier and I had to play much deeper. Even swinging the Raven more than I would like, the ball still came back with enough pop to carry the 10. It became too much ball as night went on and I had to change to my Samurai and Glad Pearl. I couldn't be happier with the Raven and will give a full review and attach some pics and/or video in near future. Great job Visionary!
Spike

So I decided to practice today and put my Raven on the spinner to try something else. I took it back to 2000 box finish and applied a coat of Storm Xtra Shine.
The Xtra Shine calmed it down a lot. But I didn't really like the reaction, so I think I'm gonna take it back to box finish or 4000 abralon and leave it there
-
Its been a while since I've thought a VBP bowled hooked a lot. This one hooks a lot. I used it 1st game for a 210, then put it away. Lanes were just too dry. I couldn't swing the ball at all without over hooking. I think I'm gonna try 4k or maybe some storm #2 over the factory finish.
-
Yeah I like mine at 2000 out of box, but I think I am going to get another Raven and play with the surface some..
-
Been gone for a while, but that looks sweet.
Who are you???? :P

Nice! Let us know how it goes!
Had it drilled and tried it but I did not care for the out of box reaction that I was seeing so I put it on a spinner and changed the surface. I usually do not care for the VBP pearls OOB so I should have done that first before trying it. The patterns were the USBC Nationals Team and Singles/Doubles. Compared the Raven to a Blue Warlock and a Radical Reax v2 Solid. Strongest reaction was with the Blue Warlock, followed by the Reax V2 Solid, then the Raven being the straightest.
Took it out to the lanes today on a fresh THS shot and liked the reaction much better after the first game. Will have to try it out in league and see how it goes. Planning on bowling on the Nationals patterns again so will be able to compare it again with the new surface.

What surface did you change it to? I hit mine by hand lightly with 1000 after the first night and it seemed to bring it to life. I have not touched it since other than to clean it and I still love the reaction.

I used a Burgundy scotchbrite pad, then lightly with Light Gray scotchbrite pad, followed by a light application of Perfect-It 2. That is my normal THS surface.
