Title: new warlock?
Post by: mfd301 on January 11, 2013, 12:23:19 AM
On BTM's website for the January ballreviews it list a warlock xv. anyone have any info on this? I let my subscription drop and and am just now getting around to renewing it, so I can't access any info from their site.

Just based upon the ball name you site Warlock XV, leads me to believe that it is either a remake or an update of the original warlock which came out in 1997 , hence the XV in the title--it's been 15 years since it's original release.

There were 2 completely different sets of Warlocks with VERY different cores.

The Blue solid and the Orange Pearl had a simple, but strong symmetric core.

The Warlock DC balls had the Purple Pearl and the Pink Solid Tour version. Both had the same strong flaring, asymmetric core. Unfortunately, Visionary never publicized the intermediate differential on these balls.

So just saying it is a "Warlock" doesn't tell us what type of ball this may be.

And yes, Brad was correct, the XV = 15th anniversary.

OH MY GOD REALLY?!?!?!

Now that I'm done freaking out...is this a release I somehow missed, or is it something coming up?

Hopefully released next month.  Blue Warlock was one of my all-time favorites.

Curious to see what this new XV coverstock will be like.

BTM rated it for heavy oil, not even medium.
Finish was 2000 grit dull, overall hook rating was 53 with all notes indicating an even reaction.

I vaugely remember spinning up one of those Pink DC tours on a determinator before.  IIRC, it spun up around 12 seconds which was kind of close to a Zone Classic.  That would make the intermediate diff around .012-.013 I believe.

Jeff, thanks for that info.  I think I would prefer a ball rated for medium or even medium to heavy but I will wait and see how it reacts.

It is 2000 grit matte/dull; there's always polish

Now, I'm really curious how the original Blue Warlock will react for me,compared to what BTM says this XV is reacting. As I had mentioned to you a while back, I have one sitting here, a 15 lb. blem (Being a Visionary, no one but a Visionary inspector can say how it qualifies as a blem. To everyone else it looks like 1st quality.)

I think the stock surface of this original is 600 grit (green Scotch-Brite pad). I"d never even try it at that roughness.

Charlest you wanna sell that blue warlock. I have 16 in the closet but I roll 15 now. I tried to get one from visionary and was told all they have was 16. It was my all time favorite ball. Might have to try the XV.
