OGRE PEARL
« on: June 20, 2007, 05:54:20 AM »
Any feedback from the Ogre pearl?  I just purchased my first Visionary, haven't drilled it yet, and was hoping to read a review or some notes on its reaction.  I'm looking for a medium to light ball for my local house.  I decided to go pearl becuase I've come to the conclusion that all these strong balls on medium to light defeat the purpose.  I'm hoping this Ogre Pearl will be perfect for game1 and game 2.  Any thoughts?

A half ten is not a great shot.  No, you shouldn't have carried it.

Depending on your style , Lane conditions , and what drill it sould be a very good 1-2 game ball. Give us some more info on you and you house condition.

The Ogres are aggressive balls you may want to go with a 1:30 drill . It will give you a strong arc. But it will be very conttrollable and forgiving.

I would definitely recommend a weaker layout if you have some hand.  Mine is set-up 4x4 with the pin above the ring finger, and it drives past the nine pin on a regular basis both on wood and synthetic lanes.

Well I just ordered one from a user on here and I'm really excited about it. I'm going for a mild drilling since the ball is already aggressive. The plan is to put this between my Red Zone and Tropical Storm.

Can't wait!

I ordered the Ogre Pearl from Visionary Monday because I am very impressed with the reaction I have with the Ogre Solid.  I am looking at the Pearl to fit below the Solid on Medium conditions and will use a 4x4 drilling with the pin below the ring finger.

I didn't need Chuck Norris last night when I finally shot my first 800 series.

Just got the ball today, and all I can say is...holy backend Batman! Hard hitting ball, got to throw it for a couple games tonight during quarter night. Turns out it's stronger than my Red Zone (probably because the RZ is full roller, while the Ogre is normal). This thing had a backend comparable to my Vertigo on a medium house shot right out of the box. I'll be going again tomorrow when there should be more oil on the lanes to really try it out.

That's why I recommended a weaker layout before.  I also have a Red Zone.  If both balls are in OOB condition, and layed out the same, I would say the Blurple will be a good 5 boards stronger overall.  If the Pumpkin and Blurple are done the same way, the Pumpkin is 3-5 boards stronger overall.

Thank god I bought this ball . Threw it today at AMF Airport on the JOG modified Chameleon, and man this ball was striking. Stood with my right foot on 21, aimed between the 2nd and 3rd arrows, and was in the pocket for most of the hour. Once it started to break down a little bit (moved to a pair with other lefties to try and adjust), just made a simple move right 2 boards and as back in the pocket.

First shot I threw with it looked like it was just going to skid, I was about to turn my back on it, but wow the ball moved into the pocket. It's a beautiful thing!

On a side note, it was funny watching people on my pair look at my ball. Half of them didn't know what Visionary or the Ogre was.

EDIT: Just got back from practicing the other shots, broken down though. Found a great line with the Ogre Pearl on both. I'll be starting with my Power Drive Sanded on the Shark, but I'll be moving to the Ogre later in the day. The Cheetah is just begging the Ogre to be thrown up 5.
