Purple Ice X ??
« on: August 05, 2003, 09:09:02 PM »
Hi,...I have a control ball post in the misc. forum now, but I wanted to ask the V team about the PIX.

It's touted as a control ball...yes ? Is it true ?  Something good for sport shots / controlled shots ?

How does it work with a controlled drill, i.e; 3x5 or 2x5, or even a 2x2 etc, etc...

The purple Ice is admittedly an odd ball for some. But something simple like label is best. Not really exotic drillings for this ball. trying to force a reaction or ball motion out of this ball can make it come off a bit sour. with two of them in my bag and i have the entire visionary line up, i can compare it to everything else. i have one drilled 2x5 with the pin close to pap. the second is rev leverage. and they both start early but the 2x5 has much more controlable backend, and it's slightly polished. i can use it on lighter sport shots and reverse block type of shots. but every ball has it's place.

so try it and just be realistic about the ball's expectations.

I believe this is a 10:30 Leverage drill.
The pin is at 3-3/4 and the cg is kicked to the right,
I think maybe 2

10:30 leverage  Reverse 3-3/4 x 2 I think or somewhere in that area

12:00 leverage Stacked 3-3/4 x 3-3/4

1:30 leverage Label 3-3/4 x 4.5

You are really using the Pin and the MB to lay out the ball.

I have a document that I saved in word if you give me an email, I'll send it to you.  It has pictures even

For me the term rev leverage is actually one i use to use from ebonite sorry, lol. some habits die hard. it's pin in a leverage position, with the pin below ring finger and cg and MB are in strong position, but below the thumb, so it's leverage and creating a slightly early roll.

basically 3 3/8 x 3 almost, but it's pin below the fingers and cg closer to thumb, i prefer to use longer pins 3-4 on rev lev layouts.

early roll, lots of hook and strong finish in the backend.

Yeah, I wasn't sure what the cg measurement was.  As I have notices with a few of my balls that have a MB marking on them that they don't all line up in the same spot.  I have two DC Tours and the MB's are in different spots, so I just use the pin and MB.

I think Tim nailed it on keeping the drills for this ball fairly simple.  The one I had was drilled label.  CG dead on grip center and pin right next to ring finger.  The reason was I had one of Visionary's urethane Sorcerers drilled this way and Visionary described the Purple X as, "...a urethane on steroids."  So I thought they would compliment each other well this way.  They did but, I had a terrible time on any synthetic lanes with these two other than a reverse block!  Gave up on them for a while and then bowled last summer in a couple of wood houses.  Absolutely tore them up on a normal league shot!  Averaged 230 on the wood with this pair.  Very controlled, when the shot was fresh the Purple was clean through the heads and then no violent snap, just a nice roll to the hole.  Once it started to run out of gas or want to cross, switched to the Urethane and moved back to the right.  (I'm right handed.)  Beautiful compliment to each other.  Very easy to read.
