"Liquid Core" ball
« on: October 16, 2005, 05:18:22 AM »
We just had this announced at a tournament here in St. Louis about how Visionary just got the approval for a new ball that you pour your own core in.  I don't know the details of it, but apparently if you leave it for an hour, it's for dry lanes, for 3 hours, it's for medium lanes, and overnight it hooks a lot.  I guess it's how long you wait before you plug it or something.  It's an interesting idea, but when I first heard it, it reeks of shenanigans.  The idea of people pouring their  own core makes the possiblity of cheating increase many times over.

Anyone else's opinions on this?  Has anyone heard details about this?

I'm just passing on the information that was announced at the Gateway tournament At Knittigs on Saturday morning this past weekend.  Anyone there can attest to this.

Wow, you people will believe anything.  You're getting all fired up at the USBC over something that someone heard at a JUNIOR TOURNAMENT!  There's nothing on Bowl.com and the most recent Visionary ball was approved back in February.

Please, folks, remove thine head from thine rectum.

If the USBC wouldn't allow Lane#1 to reissue a ball SOLELY by polishing it, do you really think they'd approve a ball whose core is made and poured by the bowler??

Say, do you fill it with lead shot before pouring the core to lower the RG
AND
do you fill it with styrofoam before pouring to raise the RG?

Hysterical! ROTFLMAO many, many times!

I am still waiting for this fictious person to be named.  T

This is so far out in left field that anyone that believes this BS deserves to join ranks of the other jr. weezers.

Makes sense someone is having fun with the other lil jr. throwers.

I didn't post it to get people fired up.  I just posted it, because it's all they were talking about Saturday and I thought I'd pass the information on to you all here, since I'm a frequent visitor to this site.

We'll all just have to wait and see what Visionary has up their sleeves.

If a ball like this was approved, would that mean the infamous Detonator Pro with the explodothane coverstock would finally be put in production?

Visionary's next ball to be introduced is the Black Pearl Immortal sometime this fall.

You've been had BeefSTL.  It's so idiotic ROFLMO.  Kids believe anything and whoever starts this BS had all of you going.

It's just information people, I really don't know how this works but the director of the Gateway Classics(which the tournaments are partly funded directly by visionary products) announced this new ball just approved by the USBC. Like I said they even held raffles giving away visionary equipment. We were told about John Wonders and his new ball but were not given exact specifics about every flippin detail. I highly doubt you just take the ball and pour some handy dandy covering in and wham have a ball. I'm sure there is a lot more to this than what we know but Ricky figured he would give a little insight on some of the new technology that may be to come. Apparently since everyone thinks that just because ricky's description didn't give every detail that this must be complete crap.

To me it sounds like they are advertising a ball you can make to your own wants rather than buying what is already created, I mean who wouldn't want to make a ball of their own. Does it mean that any bowler is just pouring covering around a core and wham we have a new ball....no. Does it mean that rg and diff values are going to way out of limits...no.(Not sure how you think this could lead to cheating Ricky, I'm sure this design will be highly controlled if the USBC has any brains) Just a heads up on what could be to come....if you still think this is complete BS and we are playing you all like fools sorry for your time, but I am just going with what I heard...

I e-mailed John, Jason and Jim to see what's up on this topic.  Hopefully Jason will respond as he visits here from time to time.

I've got to re-up my test staff membership anyway so I'll be calling to see what's up with this changeable ball.  I still have a hard time understanding how average Joe bowler is going to be able to work on his equipment to change core or cover.

Hello all,

While we are always working on a number of projects to advance our position in the industry and always try to stay ahead of the game with core and coverstocks, this liquid core ball does not exist.
In reality, it would be possible to make a ball that would work similar to this (maybe not handle extremely heavy oil), but the USBC would never allow a ball like this to be approved.  All balls must be manufactured and sold without any voids in the ball (Even though the intention would be to fill the void).  It would just leave way too many unknowns; RG, RG Differential, Coefficent of Restitution, etc.

     Thanks,
