Serial Numbers on Visionary Balls

Just punched up my NBPP I won from the Facebook contest (Thanks Visionary!).  I've been doing well with it so far in my summer league, but my pinky finger is taking a beating because it rests right where the engraved serial number is located.  I know this was discussed a few years back in this forum, but is there something I can do aside from wearing a band-aid on my finger when I bowl?

I fill in the serial numbers with a paint stick, just so that they are easier for me to read.  It might help you some.  I remember that there was a topic about this issue earlier (it does not bother me), so let me look for it.

I went back three years and only found a post about the engraving fillings falling out.  I thought that there was some talk somewhere about someone else having the same problem you are but I could not find it.

Not sure exactly how to describe it.  Think of a combination of paint and chalk, shaped like a large crayon.  It is a moist chalk-like mixture that you rub across the engravings to fill them in and then wipe off the excess and let it dry overnight or so.

It was commonly used years ago to fill in the personalized engravings that bowlers used to identify their bowling balls and many ball companies used it also.  Now, I am not sure what the ball companies are using.

I used one to fill in my Pearl Ogre.  I am not sure that it would would fill in enough to take out the engraving completely.

Go to a craft store like Hobby Lobby and they have all kinds of stuff that may be of use. You can use a regular crayon if you want. You just have to go a little heavy to get it to fill in all the way. Everything is still readable it just doesn't have edges because it was filled with the crayon or whatever you choose to use.

You could also have it plugged. That would work well, but cost a little more. I had a similar problem with the old Track logo where they marked the cg. It was in the palm area near the base of my fingers and because of the lines rubbed my hand something awful. It was filled in from the factory and still gave me hell.

I second the plugging option.  

If you do a fairly good job of cleaning out the engraving with a little acetone the 15 minute quick plug holds up really well.  

I had this done on a ball where a deeply engraved logo was on my bow tie and it hasn't fallen out yet.

I always used bathroom tub&tile caulk. You can get a small tube at any hardware outlet, and even some all purpose stores (like wal-mart).

 Only came in white, but I wanted to be able to see the lettering anyway, so that wasn't a problem. Wipe it on, use a paper towel to remove the excess, and let it sit overnight.

You could also wear like a golf glove and cut the tips off of your middle and ring finger and leave the pinky finger, or get one of the bowling gloves that already have the fingers done. Some people use the golf glove cause it's a soft leather and doesn't have the react-a-tack palm. I use one cause I like the grip palm and the ball doesn't move in your swing. Just an idea, Bruce

IMHO a frequent issue: I have seen many VBP balls with broken engravings, and my G-3 also suffers from it. My FMG and the SBG are still in excellent shape, though, but this seems to happen quite often!
