THE GREAT GREEN GARGOYLE
« on: July 13, 2008, 05:16:46 AM »
I HAD FRANKIE MAY DRILL THIS BALL FOR ME, AND HE DID IT OVER THE PHONE. I TOLD FRANKIE MY NEED FOR A BALL FOR MEDIUM TO DRY LANES. MY FRIEND JOHNATHAN LEE WAS
IN NEW MEXICO AT THE NATIONALS AT THE TIME AND HES A VISIONARY BELIEVER.HE PICKED BALL UP FOR ME. WE HAD BOWLED A TOURNAMENT WHERE A GUY WAS THROWING A GREEN GARGOYLE AND I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE WAY THIS BALL EFFORTLESSLY GOT DOWN LANE AND TO THE SPOT. AND THE WAY THIS BALL ARC\SNAPS IS THE BEST WAY FOR ME TO DESCRIBE IT. AND I KNOW THAT SOUNDS CRAZY BUT THATS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE. IM A STROKER, 15-16 MPH WITH MEDIUM REVS. I RELY ON MY ACCURACY. THIS WEEKEND I PUT THE GARGOYLE TO WORK. I BOWLED A TRIOS 8 GAMER IN SAN JOSE. SPONSORED BY TONY REYES (PBA)AND LINDSEY WONG. I BOWLED RELUCTANTLY BECAUSE OF AN ANKLE/HEEL INJURY I GOT TRYING TO PLAY BASKETBALL. LANES MED TO DRY, I WAS STANDING 24 LOOKING 15 TO 8. THESE ARE MY SCORES. 238,248,215,222,235,225,243,289. NOW THIS IS THE KICKER,I NEVER MOVED MY FEET FOR THE FIRST 6 GAMES.I WAS ABLE MAKE SPEED ADJUSTMENTS TO STAY PUT. MOVED IN GAME 7,ABOUT 6 BOARDS AND MOVED MY TARGET WITH ME. WITHOUT MUCH EFFORT THIS BALL REALLY STARTED TO SHINE. I HAD GREAT CARRY AND CONTROL OF THE BREAKPOINT. THIS IS REALLY A NICE BALL BY VISIONARY. WOULD LIKE TO TRY ANOTHER BALL FROM THIS COMPANY. ANYONE KNOW WHAT BALL WOULD COMPLIMENT THIS BALL FOR MEDIUM TO HEAVY OIL PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHICH ONE I SHOULD BUY. THANK AGAIN TO FRANKIE MAY AND VISIONARY.

Gladiator Solid
AMB Centaur solid
FM Gryphon

are some candidates, in that order.

If you can get your hands on one the violet gargoyle is a great step up.

THANKS CHARLEST AND OSKUPOSER FOR THE INFO. WHAT DO TOU GUYS THINK ABOUT THE OGRE PEARL AND OGRE SS BALLS. ALSO CAN YOU LET ME KNOW WHAT BALL CLEANER YOU GUYS USE ON VISIONARY BALLS. I LOOKED IN THE VISIONARY FORUM AND SAW THIS BALL WAS FIRST REVIEWED IN THE YEAR 2000. DO THERE COVERS REALLY HOLD UP THAT LONG? GUYS ARE SAYING THEY HAVE OVER 200 GAMES ON SOME OF THERE BALLS WITH NO LOSS OF BALL REACTION. THAT WOULD BE A GOOD THING.

Well I don't know about how it compares with the greenie, but the Ogre pearl is an amazing ball.  I got the ball just this past wed, got it drilled thursday, and averaged 232 on my friday night leagues.  The league I bowl in does not have many brackets or anything, but out of the few they do run I cashed more than I paid for the ball new.

SS is closer to the same reaction as the Greenie.  OP more arcing pearl.

I'd go with charlest's suggestions and get a solid to work with the length and snap of the Greenie.

Not sure what's with the CAPS armswing but it's considered yelling on the net.

You said you wanted medium to heavy. The Ogree SS is not for that and the Ogre Pearl is just for mediums, if you have some "hand" it's not for heavy. The Violet and the Ogre Pearl is a step up but, again, that is not what you implied or said. The Ogre SS is not a step up, but an alterntative to the GG.

So what do you want? The next step up or a ball for medium to heavy.

Their covers last a long time, more than most except for Lanemasters. All covers need rejuvenation at some time, especially dull covers used regularly on oil. Regular cleaning and other maintenance helps keep them in good condition and helps them retain their performance level. When you notice hooking power and hitting power are reduced, it's time to do something, if the cause is not a change in the oil amount on the lane.

I would recommend you pick up the other 3 Gargoyles (good luck!). My fall arsenal is gonna be all 4 Gargoyles and I'm betting my avg. goes up 5-10 pins. I think these balls are THAT good. Of course you could pick up any of the balls listed above and do just as well. If you like the Greenie, you'll like any other Visionary ball. Just my opinion...
