Title: The marking on a Mixed breed?
Post by: Schwanstuker on February 13, 2013, 01:15:16 AM
Today I received a Mixed Breed Crossover I ordered for a friend, I have never seen this ball up close so forgive my ignorance, why is the Mb marked with a "V" and why is there a "P" 6 3/4 back from the V? How does the "P" play a roll in drilling & overall performance of the Mixed Breed line? And 1 last question to anyone with Visionary, the Low Track drilling for Heavy oil states that the Pin needs to be 5.5 from PAP and the Mb needs to be 2 inches from PAP, Is the Mb portion of this ball so Dense that it can overcome a Massively weak Pin placement, did Visionary test this drilling with actual Low Track ball tester's or did Visionary just do Math to come up with such a drilling for Heavy oil?

I have not seen the ball myself but I m guessing the P could be there marking for the pin?  Is there a normal pin locator on the ball?

Yes, the White Pin is the core location, the Cg was located below and the "V" located just below that like any Asymmetric ball, the drilling directions refer to the "P" as a PSA marking but if you look at the drilling diagrams it shows PSA on or near the track but the "P" is located on the other side of the ball, not saying it's wrong, just looking for clarification before Bowlercellar, gets me my Mixed Breed Pearl.

There was a long discussion on one of the earlier Mixed Breeds about the MB marking and the PSA.   Here is a link to it:

I hope there is some info there that will help you.

The P marking is one of the psa's, usbc made them mark one of the psa on the new mixed breed crossover.

Remember this is a z-spin ball. The V is the intermediate Diff. The P is the mass bias/PSA. When you put the psa in the thumb, the cg will be near your pap. Do the layout, take a pic, post it, and Matt or someone else will tell you if it is right for what you are trying to do.

I would suggest sticking to the suggested layouts that come with the ball if you are not up to speed on the Z spin layouts.  Jason put some good thought into them and they should work well for just about any bowler

So Matt, is there printed Z-Spin Layouts for Low Track or is the traditional Mb below the Cg all that there is unless your driller is among the Physics Guru's?

I don't have the layout sheet anymore but if memory serves there were layouts for high med and low tracks similar to storms layouts

In balls from the past, a Pin 3 3/8 from PAP was a Heavy oil drilling, for me that would place the Pin under my Ring finger, the drill sheet for the Mixed breed is Pin 5.5 from PAP which would place it about an 1 1/2 Left of my Middle Finger & Mb 3 inches from PAP Low track, is the Densities of the off-set core so heavy that a strong Pin placement in these balls are not necessary?

I am not sure about the density, I believe ( and i could be wrong ) but with the Z spinners its more about getting the tue PSA as close to the thumb as possible for stronger layouts

the pin distance on my pearl is at about 4 1/2, but i pulled the V up to and past my PAP.  good length and stong backend. Jason called it the flare monster

The Crossover is drilled according to the sheet, and it starts up a little earlier with more of a strong arc.

I am not going to venture a guess as to why he selected the pin to pap distances he did.  Its one of those have faith in people smarter than me type of things.

I truly believe this will be the last of the Z spinners we will see.

Last of the Z-Spinner's, Is it because there's more to think about when drilling them versus the older Asymmetric's?

I would assume so. Jason was very surprised by the reaction the z spin caused. He stated that the MB line would be the last of the z spins
