In case anyone remembers I had a problem with my gladiator pearl as I wanted to use it when my gladiator solid starts checking up.

finally (for me) I have found the perfect solution. 2000 grit abralon hit on all 6 sides then a high gloss finish with snake oil. ball is smooth strong and finally the flip is gone (only had the skid flip motion when it was OOB). now it reacts just like the solid but doesnt hook early in the mid like the solid does.

just thought id inform others on a viable solution IF you are experiencing a big step down from the solid rather then 1 step down.

Good move, icewall.
2000 grit Abralon is 1000 grit US, whereas the stock Glad pearl is 1500 grit US. Add the Snake Oil and you don't change the grit at all. So you have a 1000 grit polished. It should, and according to you, does read the lane hair earlier and has that ever so slightly better grip, once it does start to hook.
Smart move! Would we were all that sharp in reading the lane reaction and knowing where to go, myself included!!

you got that right charlest. it reads just a hair earlier due to it being 1000 polished rather then 1500 polished which was storing too much energy. it is now my favorite surface for my pearls that I want polished. (blurple is at this surface and it too helped that ball as well)

I tried 2000 and 4000 abralon wet sanded and really didnt care for the reaction.

Im like you charlest... I refuse to give up... there has to be a surface that makes it work. just takes a lot of time and patience.


watch you bowl? just tell me when and where... im assuming carolier? Id love to put a face to the name charlest and talk about bowling

Im bowling at jersey lanes on friday nights.

dont be too modest... I learned how to get surfaces right from you. you must have done something right one of those times with those l/m balls lol.

I'm all the way South in Trenton/Ewing, at Curtis Suburban, on Friday nites.

On another note (gotta get this out of my system):
I played "victim" yet again today at Carolier for the State Seniors. One acquaintance on the next pair had 9 in a row. Another frend 3 pairs left of me had a "decent" 675 throwing a Dimension down and in. A Thursday teammate 3 pairs to the right had a 717, throwing his favorite UpRising.

I and the other guy on my pair had zero pull and 1 board swing area: pull it 1 board inside and 3/10. Swing it 2 boards outside your target and you had a washout. I ain't that accurate: seems like me and my buddy had a PBA sport shotor they skipped our pair when re-oiling at 1 PM. I wasted first game (177) learning all that.

Shot 230 2nd game playing, pardon me, "fluffing" a high gloss B/G Centaur up the 10 board - NOT MY GAME! Started 3rd game with 3 stoned ten pins and a stoned 7 pin. Carrydown?? Wasted most of the rest of the game trying to find some carry - shot a dismal 175 with one strike and 2 more stoned 10 pins. Beginning to get aggravated, in the Extreme.

Saving grace: I think I executed pretty damned well for two 17xs. Made two 3/10s, missed two washouts. Even whined to the wife when I got home and she could careless about anyone's bowling.  That shows you how desperate I was.

To top it all off, my doubles partner never showed up. Wonder if he's in the hospital. Only thing that would stop him from bowling.

wow trenton? yea your a little far from me that day lol.

Ive had some days like that. but if I dont get too mad I try to take it all in and learn from it. but it can be frustrating when its only your pair.

I always tell people who could care less about bowling... sometimes you just have to tell someone.

lately for me its been a nightmare with that blasted 9 pin! it haunts me. I dont know if its the lane conditions, me, or the new twister pins but something is going on as my friend who is much better then me also gets tons of 9 pins at this house.

I bowled once on Twister pins in the Nationals (Knoxville? Reno?). Hateful little biuggers. SOlid hits leave 8 & 9 and 4/9 pins. Light hits carry the world. High hits leave 7-9s for righties. The ABCs view was the average was the not different enough from regular plastic coated wood pins. The "average"??? What does that have to do with anything, when they fall and react so differently? Hmm, was someone paid off, yet again? Was an idiot watching the "store" that day?

I wont be leaving this league as I have some close friends on my team but I dont think I will return next fall season unless its my only good choice.

you are so right though. those pins react very funny. I could have easily shot in the 700's this past friday but on many seemingly perfect hits I have left every single back row pin. all hits looked like they entered at the same spot and angle but again and again i see 9 pins even on light hits! I could see if my ball is hitting too hard or too much angle but if I hit a little light what would be happening? my ball is deflecting into the 10 pin LOL!??? Ive noticed most people who carry the 9 and 10 pin all the time play much straighter then me but end up with 7 pin HAHA. go figure
