New Breed(s)
« on: August 11, 2009, 10:32:49 PM »
I bought the New Breed pair.  I have a problem with them.

The speed of my bowling is slightly above average.  Spin speed is probably barely average, but the contact of the ball on the lanes is not at the equator of the ball but 2" in (I'm a newbie to taking bowling seriously as you can tell at my problem explaing this, though I've bowled on and off for 30 yrs  and I'm in a league now and loving it!) so I am sure it does not take advantage of the full surface as it spins as it slides down the lane.  Problem is this:  Pearl spins but doesn't hook much at all, only slightly more than my urethane.  The solid almost dies on contact and also doesn't hook much.  How do I define much: 2 boards ... sometimes.  The specs of the balls say they travel down and offer a sharp break at the end.  Because of my throwing style, did I possibly pick a bad matchup where it is unable to 'snap' at the end. The Gladiator says it offers a more smooth consistant arc, perhaps this would be better.  I don't mind spending the $$ if I can get it to work with my (limited) abilities.

Thanks for any advise you can give!

There is no drilling or surface going to make topping/spinning going to hook more than a few boards, try to get behind and let it roll off your hand with forward motion. If the grip is good it will just come off and roll right up the boards and hook more than enough.

Barry, not sure I would agree with that....and I am not one to truly understand the fuller roller either......but we have a girl on our team who 'spins' the ball.  Jason has seen her throw and she bought the NB Solid from Frankie in Vegas and had it drilled for her style of bowling.

Thing is....the person that drilled her current ball had it drilled (I'm going from memory here.....) pin above with CG in palm but kicked out.  For her style of bowling, that pin was not anywhere near where it needed to be.
Frankie drilled the New Breed Solid differently and I know he did a drill that would take advantage of how she throws.

On edit....corrected the above!!

Mr. May would know how to drill for a spinner.    He came around the side a lot.

FYI...in case you've never seen Mr. May's style.....not a true spinner but he came around the side a lot and topped it.

First off, thanks for all that took the time to read this and respond.  It gave me lots to think about, and try.

I did not want to change too much at one time, for fear of not knowing what helps, and what doesn't.  But I did this:  Made sure my wrist was straight and did not bend it backward.  I threw the ball like I was tossing a football underhanded (wonderful description!!!) and brought my fingers to my palm as I released the ball.  The ball becamemore of a full roller, and had a wonderful 'snap' at the end. Lane was too dry to try the solid. For those 3 games I bowled a 165, 225, and 245 (rounded up).  I can't wait to see how consistant I can be, and at  what level.

Thanks again, guys.  You have all helped me more than you know.

I would imagine he just used the wrong term and meant it tracks over more of the ball.

I am sorry I do not describe correctly.  It tracks over  much  more of the ball.

I must read up more to get the lingo.
