Title: Visionary test staffers
Post by: clint191 on August 10, 2007, 02:02:15 PM
Hi, I was thinking about maybe trying to pay the fee to become
a silver level Visionary test staffer.  There's been a few
Visionary balls that I've wanted to try and for whatever reason
just haven't done so.  On the silver level, it comes w/ a ball and
shirt w/ 50% discounts on any additional purchases over the next yr.

My question is how good is the 50% discount???  Are the balls retail
priced at 250-300 bucks + drilling, or are they pretty close to what
most online pro shops charge ($100-140)???  The discount doesn't seem
to be worth it if 1/2 off only equals the price anyone can get online.

Just curious

It is worth it because with the test staff, you can request pin placements and top weights and they do come with a warranty.  With the online shops, you tend to get whatever they decide to send you and there is no warranty if your ball decides to crack or shows up with knicks and scratches in them.

I chose the Platinum package back in 2001 and each year pay the $50 renewal fee to get the discounts and free shipping.  I figure I save more than that in shipping charges each year, so consider whether you can afford to get one of the packages with free shipping and if that would be worthwhile over the years.  You will also save a bit with the discount when compared to online stores.

Hi clint.  I got the Platinum package and added an Ogre Pearl to the 4 balls I got through this membership level.  I paid $141 total - $81 for the ball and $60 for drilling, fingers grips, and a thumb slug.  Plus, Betsy makes sure that you get a ball that is closest to your specs.  If you desire a Top Weight of 3-4" and a Pin distance of 3-4", for example, that is what you will get.  They have never sent me out a bowling ball without asking me first if it is what I want.

To answer your last question, Visionary charges about $20 less than online retailers do if you are a Test Member.

I am very happy with my bowling balls, their shirts, towels, and customer service.  My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

Is Visionary the only company to do this type of program direct to the consumer? (Besides Banger)

As far as I know Visionary and Bangar are the only 2 companies who offer the test staff deal.  None of the big companies do it, and I have never seen where any of the other smaller companies do it.

I can honestly say I would have never tried Visionary if not for this program.  And that would have been shame, because they really do make good equipment.

I know Visionary is a smaller type company, which is why they can get away with selling direct. The reason you don't see the big companies doing this is they would be berated by pro shops and distributors. Cutting the pro shop out of the deal is a tough pill to swallow, but then again, our big distributor doesn't stock much of them.

I believe Visionary started this program because their product was not available in many areas.  Main reason why I decided to try them.  I believe that Insite is considering starting a similar program.

I can completely understand why the big companies don't do it.  For as long as Visionary has been around, they are still a smaller company.  I don't know of any pro shop in my area that sells Visionary, but programs like this give them exposure in places they otherwise wouldn't get it.  I have had many people ask me about my Visionary equipment since I joined.  Will any those people buy a Visionary ball... I have no idea.  But the fact that they have seen an impressive specimen like myself throwing it, and get to see firsthand what the balls will do, they are now exposed to it.

Thanks all who replied.  B-day coming up the end of this month
and a membership sounds like what I may be asking for.

In the past Visionary has rebated the driller.  Not sure where this stands now.    They have run this program for years Nick surprised that you are just learning of it now.  And since most pro shops don't carry a lot of Visionary equipment most pro shops could care less.  My driller doesn't care one way or another.  It allows him to carry less in overhead and I get the balls I want. It's a very workable arrangement.  I am sure Banger got their idea from what Visionary has being doing for years. Since Visionary manufacturers for them.

scott, start making time for Cambridge.  I'm gonna get a squad together with bass.  We'll try to make it one of the first couple of weekends.  I'll get in touch with Jerry early next week about reserving a shift.

Visionary does still include a driller rebate with every ball they ship.

BrunsNick,

I know for a fact that Visionary has pro shop programs for those that want to do it.  Gran Prix stocks their stuff and have had no problem ordering from them.  I believe that with the bigger companies such as Ebo/Ham and Brunswick dominating the market, that most other distrbutors and bowlers are reluctant to give them a chance even though they have been in existence for 10 years now.

What gets me, is how bowlers raved about how good Faball was in the 90s and yet these are the same guys that ran Faball.  Yet, alot of the same bowlers choose not to give Visionary a chance.  Those who have tried VBP have had nothing but positive experiences with both their equipment as well as the customer service.
