Which ball?
« on: September 29, 2004, 03:28:05 AM »
A friend of mine is very interested in trying Visionary. His current go to ball is a Roto Grip Apocalypse. He uses this ball on all conditions but it's best suited for medheavy-heavy oil. All things being equal, what Visionary ball do you think would be a good complement to his Apocalypse? Thanks.

Don't know anything of the RG Apoc.  I'd msg Jeffrevs as he knows a lot about RG stuff and a lil about everything else.

If you're looking at Visionary med-heavy ball right now is Granite Gargoyle which is particle and a different kind of particle than any other company puts out.  Surface can be adjusted.

I'd imagine a Blue Sparkle Gryphon should be close.  Might have to add some surface and drill it a little stronger.  The Burgandy Gryphon with some polish might work also.

He's not looking to replace the Roto but he would like to try a Vis. ball for when the lanes start to get dryer. Any suggestions on a medium to med-dry ball?

The new Violet Gargoyle solid, the G-3 pearl and the Blue Gryphon solid all supposedly are designed to handle medium to medium-light oil patterns. The Blue Gryph handles well in its box state, polished, and takes well to dulling down, just like Brunswick's PK 18 and Columbia's Super-FLex coverstocks. The G-3 is Visionary's equivalent to balls like the Ego, Messenger Ti Pearl, Eraser, and the like.

If he doesn't mind trying a discountinued ball,
I would tell hime to get the Crimson Executioner.

Otherwise the G-3 Or the Charcoal would be good choices.
I have throw a fuel (Cyclotron Core) and a Charcoal Executioner.

Both balls gave me a good feel, so I am guessing that he could take a
Crimson or Charcoal, and drill it the same and get what he wants.

The charcoal is very versital, while the Crimson is good ball, it has
a little bit a problems with carrydown, that is why I prefer using
a Charcoal and putting polish on it.

I use a charcoal with a 315 on it polished to 1000, and for a THP I can start with it and pretty much end the night with it.  I start down and in, then swing
it ant the end of the night.

Ringing10,

The Gryphon (G-3) 2-Toned would be the best choice for medium to med-dry.  The following is a post I placed on the Visionary site:

punched this ball last Tuesday with a 4 1/2 stack drill. This was done to compliment my Charcoal Executioner that was drilled 3 3/8 control. This ball fit perfectly into the arsenal I was trying to create. When the Charcoal was burning up a little too early, the G-3 gave me the extra push through the heads, the move to the pocket through the carry down, and the reserved power to finish the rack when it hit. An execellent selection for anyone wanting to have a ball that will get them through the transitioning of a fresh shot...don't rule out the ability for this ball to be extremely devastating on a bank shot...it moves with abandoned aggression when the block flips and the ball starts moving to the pocket.

Extra! Extra! Not only does this ball do everything said above...it does more. This is the first ball I've been able to throw confidently around middle arrow and know it's shredding the rack when it hits. I'm not the type of player that is going to generate a crazy amount of revs, but when the shot is there and accuracy counts, this ball gives me the extra carry I need to run away with scores.
