Title: adding a hand cheating?
Post by: Dean Richards on November 21, 2005, 09:49:48 AM
I recently won a tourney where in matchplay instead of using one hand i used 2 due to the over under i had out there but kept my right hand in the ball and still threw it from the right side. I have been practicing this for about a year and i finally brought into my tournament game like a month ago. Many bowlers have success throwing it this style and one hand for spares(Osku Paleerma)...I don't find it wrong at all..do you guys?

It's not cheating at all, as long as your still putting the same hands fingers in.  Two hand bowling is getting more popular and one of my really good friends throws it with 2 hands and is a beast, even though his 2 hand form is really unique indeed.  But to have the confidence when it's not your normal game and to go back and forth in a tournament is pretty amazing

The only USBC rule that I know of is that you have to have the same hand in the ball the whole game ie. right handed or left handed.  From what I understand the PBA has a 2 hole rule.  There must be a thumbhole drilled in the ball to keep you from just turning the ball around and changing the way it is laid out.

In league you have to throw with the same hand as you qualified I don't know about tournament play but I believe it would not be allowed in league unless you qualified that way establishing your average

Exactly, to much power...Think if your right handed and and can throw left handed at your 10 pins how much easier it would be. If you have a 3 6 how much easier it would be to not shop it, etc.  Then think about some bowlers that only have one arm, or simply can't do anything with their opposite hand. It's not fair to them in my opinion.  Now the pros are allowed to switch hands freely, but they are also pros, and they dont throw it opposite for spares because they hardly miss spares as it is, but simply to throw a strike shot. But I think for the average junior/adult tournaments its not fair for the 99% of people that have to suffer from only having skills to bowl with one hand, thats my 4 cents
