Staying Junior Vs. Going Adult
« on: January 23, 2005, 01:28:57 PM »
i figured a new post needed to be made since no one has been on or posted in the last couple of days... i was just wondering who thinks that being a junior now just isnt worth it anymore and going adult is looking better and better as the days of being a junior goes on... i personally am waiting for Junior gold and thats it... i am done after that and its time to venture on new horizons.... as when i talked with Robert Smith... theres only so much you ccan do as a junior and i know i haven't odne it all... but damn... cna only stayb a junior so long.... i personally have one year left after this year (if i want) and i just dont see it being worth it... but anyways i was just wondering what is everyone take on this and if anyone wants to give out some pros and cons ofr being a junior and being an adult.... one thing bout being adult would be good is that when you put money into a tourrnament and place... you actually get a check in your hands rather than jump through hoops to get money out of a scholarship account.... but ya.. just wanted to start a new topic because the other ones are kinda old... and thats that....

Got to add more now that i have read all the posts.

As far as getting scholarships for guys for bowling.  If you can get the guys to give up their money for the big three andshare among all the men's sports more power to you.  If there is a men's program they have scholarships availabler even tho they may not be officially "Sport" scholarships.

Yes you can make cash in adult leagues and tourneys but the expense is  higher and again  I know many that do yet they spend their money before college bils come up.

I have tracked just over $20,000 in scholarships for my son and we have yet to have any trouble getting our money to pay for anything.

I love all you guys but please weigh all your options and don't just get green eyed.

I guess I'm lucky in that we had great junior leagues growing up with top competition week in and week out. I stayed a junior until I was 22 (I was still 21 on Aug. 1 so I could bowl another year) and enjoyed it very much.
However, if you are one of the top juniors at your house and you're are still bowling leagues with 5 year olds, then you either need to find a different house with better junior competition (if there is one around you) or turn adult. You need to challenge yourself with better competition on a week-in, week-out basis if you want to improve. Bowling the occasional high-end junior scratch tournament won't do that for you.
That's ridiculous about not oiling the lanes for you. Dang, we always had the fresh, just-layed-down Saturday morning shot and it was often a challenge to get the ball to wrinkle! I think if you found a better junior league in your area (if one exists) you'll find that the lanes are oiled more often for you. I suspect that your house doesn't oil now because most of the bowlers are bumper-bowler types who don't really need any oil.

You weren't unlucky when you left that corner pin, so shut up about it already!!
