Howdy,

Here's your chance to chime in on a rules change I'm undecided about.

A few of our events in smaller centers have 2 qualifying squads.  In years past, you could re-enter (for the full price), and have the better of your 2 squads be the one that 'counted'.

I'm thinking of changing that to if you bowl a second squad, your first squad gets thrown out completely, even if your first squad turned out to be better.  So, it's definitely more of a gamble, but it also may prevent the idea of the people that bring enough money (or have the time or stamina) to re-enter having the best chance at winning.

Tell me what ya think- obviously you don't need to bowl our events to offer advice on this one...

Thanks!

For some reason, I find that this is opening a can of worms. I can just see all the parents yelling at you, giving more headaches than you already need.

i dont think that is a good idea... if you bowled + 200 and then went +50 the next squad.. why should the +50 get taken... there is no reason to take the second squad over the first... people might bowl it even to just keep warm... i dont think it would be a good move :---------------------

No Re entries period in my opinion, the pros don't get a second chance

to generate more entries it works but it does infact give an unfair advantage to those that can afford the time and expense.

it's easier to keep it otherwise as said already people will be yelling down your throat. plus some people like myself possibley will be traveling hours on end, and would want to bowl as much as possible.

Howdy,
Thanks for the replies.. as you can see people are on both sides on this one.

Zachary, people do establish a new JBT average- you're re-rated after every event. A bowler entering legally at 120 who averaged 190 would come in at 155 at event #2, and if he averaged 190 again, would have enough games to enter at 190 at atourney #3.

As to the first part, give a clueless kid a lesson and a reactive ball that fits, and, sadly, you bet they can jump from 120 to 170, 180 in a matter of weeks.  Sad, but true.  Rest assured we thoroughly check all "average jumpers" like that VERY thoroughly.  My advice: get yourself to scratch asap!!

As far as the original question of re-entries: I'm inclined to simply not allow re-entries at all, but that would affect the prize fund, sometimes a lot.  Using last year's numbers at CLiff Castle, that's almost $800 out of the prize fund that would have to be generated elsewhere, so....  I  think I'll wait for more opinions...

Thanks for the input!
Jeff

Howdy all,

After all of that I think I'm going to remind myself of the ol' philosophy "if it ain't broke don't fix it".  There's only 4 events through January that even have 2 squads, so it's not like it's a big deal.  The ones that do have 2 squads, it'd simply be too big a hit to the prize fund for the little bit "fairer" it'd make it.  I also researched the last 3 year's re-entry events and found that re-entering is anything but an automatic ticket to a title.

   Anyway, I appreciate everyone's input.

Thanks,
Jeff
