Sorry. It's the second box of info. You have to scroll ( arrows) on the bottom of the box to the "approved cleaners section". This new site sure isn't user friendly. I hate that site, now.

John,

It's the only cleaner that Valentino produces correct?  So, that would be why it's the only one on the approved list.  The other Resurrection, etc. are used at home on a spinner or at least that's the way I'd used them.

The title of the list is "Acceptable/Non-Acceptable Ball Cleaners/Polishes", not just cleaners.  A quote of the introduction to the list follows:

Here is a list of approved and not approved ball cleaners and polishes. For a product to be approved at anytime, the product must not soften the ball surface or leave a residue. If a product is not found on the list below, consider it to be NOT APPROVED either before, after, or during certified competition.

I added the red highlight.  I like the Valentino products and would like to purchase their polishes.  But I will not until they are USBC approved.  I've exchanged several e-mails with them and they basically say they're going to get them approved eventually but are not in a hurry.  Help me get them to be in a hurry.  --  JohnP

This led me to another conclusion. Since wet/dry sandpaper and Abralon pads are also not on the list, you are also not allowed to use them on you your ball. Scotch-Brite pads are on the list so you CAN use them.

HOWEVER ....
Then they say

In the past few years, many new polishes, which are designed to change the surface roughness of a bowling ball (the same as abrasives such as sandpaper, Scotch Brite pads, and Abralon pads), have been introduced in the market-place. These products, which contain solids or abrasives, are normally thick (high viscosity), paste with the consistency of car polish. Since they change the surface roughness of the bowling ball, these products may only be used before or after certified competition.

But Abaralon and sandpaper are not on the list.

Since they have gotten so explicit and gone so far as to say, if a product is not on the list, you cannot use it on a bowling ball, period. They don't say if a liquid or a solid or an abrasive is not on the list. They only say "product", which means any thing at all. Then by their logic, sandpaper and Abralon are not on the list. I don't care what the assumption is in your mind. I don't recall ever seeing this before.

So this says not only can't we use Valentino's Resurrection, we can't use sandpaper or Abralon on our balls.

This both confuses and annoys me.

Ball Cleaners/Polishes

Any cloth towel that is non-abrasive that doesn't modify the surface finish of the ball and contains no chemical additives will be acceptable for use during USBC certified competition.
Here is a list of approved and not approved ball cleaners and polishes. For a product to be approved at anytime, the product must not soften the ball surface or leave a residue. If a product is not found on the list below, consider it to be NOT APPROVED either before, after, or during certified competition.

Since they change the surface roughness of the bowling ball, these products may only be used before or after certified competition.
As a reminder: If the surface of the ball is altered by sanding or polishing, the entire surface of the ball must be sanded or polished in the same manner.

This is what the USBC has stated over the phone.
quote:

A product that has been approved for use before and after competition is acceptable for use from the moment you arrive at the bowling alley for USBC competition (through practice) to the first ball of thrown for the start the league. The product can then be used after the last ball has been thrown to when you leave the bowling alley.

After you leave the bowling alley, any product can be used provided it does not contain a chemical that will soften the durameter of the coverstock to make the ball unacceptable for use during the next USBC sanctioned competition.

Our products do not contain any ingredient that will make a bowling ball unacceptable in any aspect of the USBC rules, So our products are legal for use at home and in proshops.

Kevin -- Please post a copy of the research you have done with your products to prove they don't soften the surface of bowling balls.  Thanks  --  JohnP
