Track ball cleaner
« on: March 14, 2006, 12:17:22 PM »
Just want to clarify and ask some questions about clean and dull and clean and tacky.  First of all am I correct in saying that neither cleaner alters the grit or knocks off any polish/compound?  Secondly, is the Clean and Tacky an update of the Clean and Dull or do they merely have different effects on the cover?  I've only found one internet site that sells Clean and Tackey (buddies) and they only sell it in 4oz.  Are there any other sites, especially ones that sell it in larger quantities?  And finally, are you able to use it properly by hand or would you recommend that I use a more mild spray cleaner (power wash or powerhouse energizer) at the bowling alley and use either of these cleaners with the use of my spinner at home?
I know, alot of questions, but I'm not too happy using the energizer all the time.  I had much better results with the legends cleaner, but after using it I had to open all the windows in the house for a week.  Really nasty smelling stuff.

Clean & Dull and Clean & Tacky are the same thing, clean better than any other cleaner on the market and they don't change the cover of the ball. You can get it at Blockbuster in Quarts......

Thanks for the replies, can anyone answer this part though,

are you able to use it properly by hand or would you recommend that I use a more mild spray cleaner (power wash or powerhouse energizer) at the bowling alley and use either of these cleaners with the use of my spinner at home?

Also, I'm pretty sure they just didn't change the name from clean and dull to clean and tacky so there has to be a difference.  I'm probably reading too far into what you said brick, you just mean that it is an update/slight improvement right.  (rather than a totally different cleaner with different effects)

If you bowl on heavier oils with dull balls, I can see using them after each ball use. I don't; so I tend to use less powerful cleaners as a daily cleaner and use C&D once every 3 -5 weeks or so or when re-surfacing.

As for differences between C&D and C&T, use them interchangeably until you can't get any more Clean and Dull. Unless Track can put you in touch with the chemist who developed them, or you are consumed with curiosity. , just use them as you desire.

A Track "professional", whom I trust implicitly, told me that too many people were concerned or question the Clean and Dull name; thus the reason for the existence of C&T. That's good enough for me.

I am not a Track fanatic; I am just a Track fan.

I just checked on the Track website and there is no listing for Clean and Tacky, but on Brickguy's link, it states that Clean and Tacky is just that - it will clean, but add a tackiness to the finish of your ball, but I am assuming it will give a ball more gripo.  I personally use the Clean and Dull and it's counterpart from Columbia, Degree Dull.  Both also clean, but these cleaners help to ensure that the surface of the ball remains unchanged.

You can apply either by hand or use with a spinner.  Some of my friends will also use rubbing alcohol after using Clean and Dull because they feel that it leaves a slight residue, but I've not encountered any residue of any sort.

Fedster,

C&D leaves my balls very tacky.

I bet your friends are not following the directions!! They call for cleaning the ball with water and then wiping it dry.

Balls,

You are correct, neither will dull or polish a ball.

Clean n Dull and Clean n Tacky are interchangeable. They do the same thing to a ball.

Personally I suggest people use PowerWash at the bowling alley and deep clean with Clean n Dull or Clean n Tacky every 6-10 games or so.

clean and tacky comes in a quart size as well as a 4oz. size,  while clean and dull is still available in a 8 oz. size as well as a 4 oz, and quart size.
i hope the people at track take notice of black magic products which just upgraded thier bottles to 8 oz.  and i hope tract will bring out an 8 oz. bottle of clean and tacky, and keep the 8 oz bottle of clean and dull.
not everybody in bowling is afraid to buy a good ball cleaner, yet many shops are afraid to stock an 8 oz. bottle because they fear their customer's won't spend the money on such a large bottle of cleaner.  when in fact the 4 oz. bottles are actually more expensive when you factor the cost of 2 of them against 1 8 oz. bottle.  here in the big city we would rather buy a 8 oz bottle
and save money in the long run.  the jackie gleason days of bowling are over.
and coverstock maintence on a $200.00 plus ball is very important.
